Has anyone ever been pulled over while riding an illegally modded scooter?
It seem to me the only way they'd know is by speed, because they're not likely to take the engine apart and measure the piston head.
If you've been stopped, what did you say? How did your story end? Anyone have to go back to the DMV and register as a faster scooter?
Just curious - never been stopped.

In most states along with all the regulations there is almost always a speed limitation. If you are going over that speed it pretty much seals the deal. If a moped can't do over 30 and your doing 40 with no motorcycle registrations and license they can screw you. Maybe you will get lucky and get a warning though.
I have never seen a scooter pulled over to be honest though. Heck I rarely see motorcycles get pulled over. I think you would have to be doing something crazy stupid or dangerous for them to bother with it.

Was snagged a few times for going 50+ on moped plates. I usually joke saying thier radar must be screwed up thinking im doin 50+ on a moped plated scoot. Most of the time they laugh & send me on my way , one cop wanted proof it was 50cc so i showed him the id plate saying 49cc . Never lied to the cops , but never volunteered info either.. there is one of those large radar this is your speed setups near me i like to use for tuning tests. , & thats where i was popped twice. But usually if your not riding like a crackhead they dont bother ya.

The law dont bother me, my scoot is all stock. I only added 12 inches to the frame and a 150cc engine, but eccept for those 2 small details, its fully stock.

I've been pulled over quite a few times. The speed limit for scoots here is 30MPH. I got pulled over for 40MPH in a 25 and got a warning. The cop asked if it was modified and I told him it was a 70cc because he seemed interested in the scoot and he said something like "cool". I was pulled over with a friend that was on a 150. My friend was from VA and riding his 150 in MD as if it were a 49cc. I was on a 96cc 2T stroker. The cop told my friend to go home and don't bring it back on the road here in MD. Looked at my scoot and said, "That's a 50 right?" as he aimed his light at my engine. I said "yes" and he paid me no more mind. I've been pulled over on multiple occasions and had officers tell me they thought I was riding a dirt bike on the street with no plates. These were on my stripped down 2T usually with a ~100cc in it. They'd look it over but never did much other than maybe run my license and send me on my way. Had a state trooper see me on my old Venus 96cc leaving a red light pretty hard. He pulled me over and looked at the scoot like he was expecting to see an obvious big engine or something then said my tail light looked purple so get it fixed... even though they were red LEDs that in no way looked purple. One cop seemed out to get me. I think he may have noticed me speeding through town while he was in the gas station/sub shop hanging out multiple times. That or because I speed by his house. At any rate, he got up ahead of me one night, pulled off abruptly, and jumped out of his car with a RADAR gun. Luckily I was on the TaoTao WOT at about 32MPH. I passed him and he sped away heavy on the throttle. I think he was mad. In the vid below I had been passing cars at about 40 in a 30 out of state. The officer never really said anything about my speed, but he didn't know if I was allowed on roads there with my MD ORV plates. He looked it over and thought the scoot was interesting. Sent me on my way just telling me to "be safe out there". Got pulled over also in the vid below on the little stock TaoTao. Had a cop start to follow me around so I went through a neighborhood with a bunch of alleys like a smartass. I figured they might as well earn it if they wanna bug me. Lost them for a minute and then they waited for me and pulled me over. Told me they thought it was stolen basically, checked it out, sent me on my way. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nL3YN7C2uA

How do typical scooter ppl mostly react when they get pulled over? Like all cocky and disrespectful Or humble and friendly?
Because here in Holland 90% of scooter users are Kids Who think they're tuff and cool and cops are stupid and lame so they're quite disrespectful to them. Thats when you'll get a nice big fine.
My experiences are that when you just cooperate, be calm and (give the officer the feeling) you hear and accept what he has to tell, most of the time you get away with a warning. Just say yes and amen.

In most places over here, acting tuff, cool, and like you think cops are stupid and lame will get you a wooden shampoo.

That is the case in almost every instance, be it a scooter or a car. I would say 99% of the people I meet that have a problem with officers have some kind of attitude. In my almost 50 years I have had plenty of run ins with traffic cops for some really stupid stuff, and some serious stuff (130+ in a 55). Even been arrested twice for failure to pay child support. In every instance except one the the police were nothing but polite and professional. That doesn't mean I always walked away with a warning by any means, but there were not dicks just to be dicks. Everything I got I normally had coming. The only time I had a problem was when I was driving in Ohio ( I am from michigan) and an officer got behind me when I was lost and driving around aimlessly. I have anxiety and don't like it when I am followed so I made a few turns to see if he would go a different way. He pulled me over for evading and wanted to know what I had to hide lol. He saw my vape gear and assumed it was drug paraphernalia and ended up searching the whole car while I was handcuffed in the back of his cruiser. Another officer showed up to help and informed him it was an E cig and to let me go. I believe his exact words were " Its one of those e-cigs you dumb ass quit scaring the poor guy." lmao. As far as getting pulled over on a scooter/small bike it can and will happen though. A long time ago when I was 15 I had an XL75 unduro and buzzing down a country road. I got pulled over and charged with speeding, driving an unlicensed vehicle with no drivers license and no safety gear. It didn't help that I was sliding it around corners and jumping peoples drive ways. The guy was perfectly nice about it and even let me push the bike home. When I went to court the judge threw it out but lectured me for a good 20 minutes about not wearing a helmet.I was pleasant and respectful. On the other hand, around the same time my best friend got nailed driving his KDX 80 dirt bike doing wheelies down the road. He was a smart ass and ended up having his biked towed and wasn't allowed to get his license until he was 18! Being an ass just never seems to pay off with the police.

I've always been polite with cops, other than the last time I was pulled over and the cop asked if I had been drinking and I replied "Hell no". Just popped out since I'm very much against drinking and driving and don't drink alcohol period. I do think his attitude changed a little just from that one answer. I've out and out told cops before that I was stupid and had no other excuse, like when I was driving on a sidewalk in a car and didn't realize a cop was behind me and got a warning. I got pulled over at over 120 in a 50 and got a warning. I was polite and told the officer that I left my T-tops home and wanted to get home before the storm started and soaked my interior. It was mostly the truth, partly I just wanted to go that fast. I've had some reduced tickets too... like getting caught more than 20 over and having it written up as 10 over so it's a different amount of points and fine. I eventually lost my license though, after numerous mandated driver improvement programs and point system conferences, from accumulation of points, so don't think being polite will always get you out of tickets but it helps. Your only safe bet to not get tickets is to obey motor vehicle laws 100%, but that's just no fun.

I have never been pulled over on my scoot. I regularly drive 55-60 mph but that's usually in 45 mph zones and everyone else here drives that fast. Scooters and motorcycles are all assigned the same license plates so I just assume that they assume I'm on a 150cc "motorcycle". There's lots of scoots in the Tampa area and I've honestly never seen one pulled over. I think the police would rather your scoot do 50mph+ so you can keep up with traffic and not be a nuisance but again that's just my assumption. I've gotten pulled over many many times in my younger years- that was all in Michigan- and I've come across the A-hole cops that have attitudes and the decent ones too. I learned when I was young from a neighbor who's father was the prosecuting attorney and close to many police officers to respect the danger their job brings and I always keep my hands at 10 and 2 so they don't feel threatened and be as polite as possible. My most recent run-in with the police was one of my worst (well, not my worst- I have gone to jail for an unpaid dog license ticket!) and it was on my bicycle. The cop was a real jerk and said I was speeding out from between two houses looking suspect. I came out of my buddy's garage! Woe that cop was a super dick and I get angry even thinking back at it. He basically threatened any ticket he could think of if I didn't let him search the bag on my bike. It was just a small handlebar beg. I initially refused to let him search my bicycle as he had no reason or right, but after the threats I said "fine go ahead". He seemed pissed that I wasn't some perp with a record with stolen items and basically tried his hardest to make me miserable or just plain mess up my life with no reason whatsoever- I was riding a bicycle! That just makes me so pissed still...
