Guess I figured I needed a new hobby, or at least something to do during covid. Got myself licensed and bought an amateur radio rig. Nice radio but, a crappy antenna. Neighborhood has restrictions on antennas. Anyway, for any other Hams, I'm KE8QCC.

I have always been interested in this caliber. So when one showed up today for a great deal I snapped it up! Fun to shoot but ammo for it is scarce and expensive! 5.7x28 The cartridge on the left is a 22LR, shown for size comparison.

I don't shoot 9mm or .45 much, anymore because of the arthritis in the wrist and shoulder. .22, I can shoot all day. How does the recoil on the 5.7 compare to a 9?

I went to the range and shot it for the first time last night. Compared to my glock 9mm I would say recoil is much less with the 5.7 The 5.7 is a lot of fun to shoot IMO. I thought it would be more like my glock 44 (22cal) but the 57 is much easier for me to shoot. I was able to shoot some close groups at longer distances than I would normally do with a pistol. I put around 120 rounds through the 57, only 3 did not hit the silouett and I was point shooting along with rapid shooting. As a side note, 5.7 ammo is hard to find and expensive.

Always thought that 5.7 in a Savage or Ruger small frame auto, or bolt gun like the 17HMR2 would be hella fun (pretty sure I know technically why they don’t, but still...). More punch and flatter trajectory at even less than .223 recoil.

That’s a badass gun. I’ve never fired it, but from what I’ve seen, it’s pretty well liked by people that own one.
I usually like FN’s more than most other pistols. Every FN I’ve shot, just felt like it ran smooth and felt great in my hand. I think I’ve only shot the 45mm tactical and 9mm something or another though.
Congrats on the purchase!

I have the same gun for CC. I like it a lot and it shoots well. I have had mine jam with practice loads on a couple occasions though. Never with my carry load, likely because they’re pretty heavy (HST 147gr).

I broke it in at the range with 150 rounds along with my others, likely why I was a little tender the next day. I haven’t had any feed issues. It’s quickly become my preferred choice.

Yeah, I’m the only person I know that has had any feed issues with one. Spoken to plenty of others who never have. I’ve been meaning to send it in under warranty, but it’s pretty low on my list apparently because I’ve had it almost ten years or so now.

I also really like this holster with it. I carry near my lower back and I forget that I even have it most of the time. I believe it’s from N8^2 Tactical.
