Starting to look a bit better right? Still a little lean I know. So far today I've cleaned the carb again to be sure, changed to the Let's II needle as I only just noticed it's richer from about half way down with a steeper taper and thinner point compaired to the AZ50 needle I'd been running, instantly the low to mid throttle improved a huge amount! Also I had a major break through and now feel like an idiot... The Aliexpress jets are small!!! That plug chop is with the 88 jet, using my jet drills as a bore gauge I now know that the 85 jet from Aliexpress is a tiny bit smaller than the factory 72!!! The "4 stroking" I thought I could hear yesterday was in fact pinging from being super lean! Going to go up another jet or 2 now!

Spent most of the day swapping jets and test riding, almost gave up and put the stock pipe back on at one point so took a breather for an hour or so.
Gave it another go starting with a "102" main, very rich, to the point of fuel ending up in the airbox. Top speed of 44k and 4 stroking from about 3/4 throttle. Went down to a 100, slight improvement, still 4 stroking at WOT, top speed of 49 with careful feathering of the throttle at just over 3/4 throttle. Kept at it going down a size at a time, each time getting a little better/higher top speed.
This is with the Aliexpress "95" jet
Best so far, still 4 stroking on the last little bit of throttle, can sort of hear it in the video. fingers crossed going down to the 92 jet will sort it out and regain the rest of my top speed!!
Had to leave it at that for today as I realized it's right about to run out of gas. Not looking forward to doing this all again when I get a PHVA, Then again with a BBK! But I guess like anything it's a learning curve and once I've done it a couple times it'll get easier!

Am now running a 82 jet, it's a toss up between 82 and 85, I think the 85 gives a bit more acceleration and rich is safe so I'll put it back in. AND I have figured out why I've been having soo much trouble tuning and why I thought it was even "4 stroking" when it was still obviously lean as anything...
It's NOT 4 stroking, it's hitting a 9000RPM rev limiter!! 2 days ago I thought for a minute it sounded like an ignition issue, then thought nothing more about it, today when I finally started getting it dialled in it dawned on me that once I'd gotten the jet size down from where it was a real gurgley super rich 4 stroke condition with no power or top end that the "4 stroking" was now always at pretty much the same speed and always at the same RPM...
So much for "Suzuki's don't need an aftermarket CDI as there not limited", don't believe everything you read on the internet, sepcialy when it's translated from Japanese...
Damn I feel like an idiot! /need to come up with more $$ for a CDI which is worth more than the BBK or PHVA I wanted to get. Edit: NZ$230 from a NZ shop, 2 minutes of looking online and I can have one for NZ$99 + NZ$20 shipping from Japan.

Got the headlight mount mocked up, still working on indicator mounting. New gauge arrived today, much happier with this one so far! /still no fuel tank. Please forgive me for not being one of the brightest, but what is the shift light for?

I think it's just used as a redline warning, it comes on at 10,000RPM and isn't adjustable. I believe with the genuine Koso gauge you can set it to any RPM for use as a shift light, the gauge isn't scooter specific there's a display to show what gear you are in etc for big bikes.

New CDI has been ordered 3 day EMS shipping so hopefully it doesn't turn into a joke like waiting for my pipe! If I get enough hours at work this week I think I'll be ordering the carb this week www.scootling.co.nz/onlineshop/carburettor-17-5mm-honda-suzuki-2t-50cc.htmlScootling are normally overly expensive, but once you account for the price of international shipping I can't seem to beat there price by more than about NZ$10 and it is overnight delivery.

After spending more time with NZ post than it did with Japan post this was just delivered Box big enough for 20 CDIs! After unwrapping a vast amount of thick paper and several layers of bubble wrap bags it emerged Now I'm going to go get a cooler spark plug and see if this sorts out my "4 stroking" issue Factory plug is the fairly hot BPR6HS plug I've been running, so would I be correct in thinking a BPR7HS is the way to go? Then going to a "8" when I go 70cc?

Can't wait to see what CDI does.

Trust me your not the only one!! Will post a video later on after I've tried it out!
Just got to go get a plug, head to my workshop, change the jet back up a size as I think I've gone down 1 too many, fit the CDI and see what it does.

Your 4stroking will magically disappear. I am curious to see what performance increase you gonna have.
I have 2 Jogs one with stock CDI and it does the same as shown in your video. No matter if I go down hill or straight as soon I hit a certain rpm and top speed it starts to make that stupid noise.

So I went into town and got a BPR7HS plug, headed to my workshop and swapped over the CDI, simply plug and play job, it's slightly bigger than the stock one which is good as it fits nice and snug in it's hole. Also of interest in this pic is how one of the old owners has trimmed up the battery compartment and managed to fit a much bigger battery than the stock one! So in my excitement instead of changing the jet and spark plug I decided to see if it would fire up, was a little bit worried after seeing videos of aftermarket CDIs being hard to cold start due to heaps of advance even at low RPM. I had no reason to be worried, fired up first press of the button, possibly even faster than with the stock CDI! First thought, "oh great it isn't compatible with my tachometer"! Went through the tacho settings, changed it from positive pulse to negative, started the engine again and the tach burst into life, mint! Can you tell yet that I'm trying to draw this out a touch? So I went ahead and changed the plug, quickly regretted not doing it first as the exhaust head pipe was already arm burningly hot! Then took the 80 jet I had in it out (could have sworn it was the 82!) and fitted an 85, fired it up and let it idle to warm up, gave it a few revs and it was hanging in the mid range, so I lifted the needle a clip and took it for a quick test ride... OMG IT WANTS TO WHEELY!!!!!!!It didn't lift right up, but it tried and if I hadn't leant forwards I reckon it would have come right up!! So it was time to take it for a proper ride, first impression is my "cheap unstable Chinese tachometer" is no longer vague, it's now super steady and not trying to take off to the red line every few seconds! It's got soo much more acceleration across the whole range compared to the stock CDI! I think I could use heavier rollers again just to bring the variator point down into the power band a couple hundred RPM(?), I've got a mix of 3.5 and 4g in there, I'm thinking starting with a full set of 4g will be a good idea. So you've made it this far down my wall of text? Wanna see just how brave/dumb I am at one handed riding...? OK! 80kph or 50mph is more than enough for me one handed! Hit 93kmh or 58mph after that at about 9600rpm, but after about 88k it there is a horrible vibration which put me off a bit!! -Think it's the tyre out of balance, hope it's not the crank letting go haha Sorry for the wall of text, but I'm kinda super excited right now!!

Awesome! Great to see that the CDI investment was worth it. I also can't hear any 4stroking anymore.
Yeah, the red CDI gives you a good boost through the whole range.
You sure it has no BBK installed? If you get those kinda speeds with a 50cc can't imagine how much torque and speed you get once going to 70cc.
Congratulations!

That's a very good question to be honest! I think it's still a 50 as the carb and jetting were still dead stock as far as I can tell, haven't removed the cooling covers from the engine, but from what I can see through the exhaust cut out and the hole for the spark plug boot the outside of the head and bore look identical to the ones on my AZ engine. When I brought it I was told it had been played with a bit as the owner before the guy I got it from had used for a long distance South Island tour, assuming its the tour I'm thinking of it's 50cc max and they supposedly check. So it's possible that it is still a 49cc bore but has been ported? The only things I can find for sure that were not stock is the SJ50 3 shoe clutch* and it had the Kitaco variator in it. *Noticed the other day that someone had taken the time to drill tiny bits off the clutch shoes and get them all within .01g of each other! Didn't think anything of the numbers written on the shoes until I thought about lightening them and weighed them to get a starting weight.

Just realized that the CDI is the single most expensive part of my whole build! Even more than I paid for any of the scooters bar the SJ50QT from the first post (that was only NZ$16 more haha)
It's also the part that seems to have made the biggest improvement* on the butt dyno lol! Well worth the money in my humble opinion
*I know the pipe etc will have made a difference too, but it was hard to tell before the CDI was changed.
