For the money you would put into this you could get a decent scooter, go faster and travel further. Any reason why your looking into the bicycle conversions?

For the money you would put into this you could get a decent scooter, go faster and travel further. Any reason why your looking into the bicycle conversions? I want a bicycle conversion because it is more versatile. I can put it in my trunk. I can ride on sidewalks, trails, bike lanes, and 35 mph roads, plus park anywhere. Real scooters are nice and all but I would prefer to get a real motorcycle if I wanted to go that fast. The kits I am looking at are $109 plus the wheels I want are $140. $250 would get me rolling and another $100 or so would get me more upgrades so not as much as a new generic $800 pep boys scooter. Plus bicyclists drool at motors.

They look like the same kits, different color options, to me. You may want to look on eBay. I just did a quick search for 48cc motorized bicycle and some cheaper kits popped up.

Whatever you decide to do please upload pics. I think it would be cool to see you build a motorized bicycle.

I used to have a 2 stroke 49cc engine on my 26 inch Cannondale mountain bike, but the engine wore out after 20 years. It had a wheel that touched down on the back tire. Gas bikes are fun! I'd assume the chain drive bikes will be much better than your old friction drive bike. I really don't have much advice to offer but thought I would share one of my old projects. It sounds a lot like your old bike...friction drive gas powered mountain bike. A friend gave me a 4 stroke weed eater that stopped running. I was able to get it running and built this:
