This Kytronik smart booster is known to not work correctly with some aftermarket CDI's. Especially the cheapy one I have! I had to play mad Dr. a bit to get it to work. I started with the CDI that was mounted- the ebay cheapie- no go. It would only spark just a little bit and only if I really reefed on the kickstarter. This was all done with the spark plug pulled out. That was no good so the next try was my home-made CDI made from a GY6 coil and Adly CDI. I tried it first without the Smart Booster installed and it sparked ok, but nothing near what even the cheapy CDI can do. Tried all these options with and without the PiFi filter and none were working... Out of desperation I did what I probably should've done a long time ago; I dug out the old original stock authentic Ducati CDI that I hacked apart a long time ago. I basically hacked the coil portion of it off when it failed and found that when I dug through the potting a bit, I could now attach the GY6 coil to it and it works! It works great with the Smart Booster too! This is actually pretty cool because the only known weak point on these O.G. Ducati CDI's is the coil- kinda weak. With the modern GY6 coil attached to it, it's performing flawlessly! Well, in the garage anyway, I have yet to fire it up and drive it- I'm going to take it for a ride tomorrow with the Smart Booster set to "0" which is no timing change and then go from there. For some reason I couldn't locate one of the dozens of black electrical tape rolls I have floating around. I could only find yellow haha. I sprayed the whole thing down with liquid electrical tape and mummified it in the yellow electrical tape afterward. I'll eventually mummify it more with black just so it looks a little better... I can't wait to try out some of these curves. These 9 (there's 16 total) have 12 degrees of retard! That means I can gain 10 degrees of advance (power!!) at low-mid RPM's and then still have it retard to 2 degrees safer than where it's currently at WOT. More takeoff power and also cooler WOT runs. Win Win! It's going to be so great to finally have a variable ignition. This flat timing curve crap is for the birds!

Waiting Eight Days so Far to use my Kytronik Smart Booster.... I'm really bummed out with Jet200 performance right now. ( jet200.com). I ordered a BGM CDI along with a complete set of new cables last Tuesday morning Oct. 11th. The funds came out of my PayPal account that same day. The mailman already ran today and the parts still haven't arrived. Tomorrow will be 8 days and Jet200 is located in Colorado. I've received international shipments quicker than this! I've now called their phone number twice, left a message once, and also sent an email to them (I did this today). Their BGM CDI's were out of stock so I clicked on "notify me when these parts are in stock" and ordered after I received an email that they were back in stock. The cable set said it was already in stock so I wasn't expecting a delay like this. I ordered from within the U.S. for a reason- so I didn't have to wait for parts from overseas! Now I wish I would've used Scooter-Speed.com, they had super fast delivery! Scooter-Speed doesn't sell the BGM CDI's but they do sell OEM Piaggio CDI's which would've worked fine with this Smart Booster. There's nothing special about the BGM ones- just that their listed as known good quality CDI's that will work with the Smart Booster just fine (along with OEM Piaggio). Not Cool Jet200! Hurry it Up!!

What a dick move by "jon kroge" great email response by you,I've been there to brother I feel your pain!!! Ya he seemed rather blase'(?) about the shipping wait. I do realize that many U.S. based suppliers order Internationally regularly and will often put your order in with their next one to save you from paying International shipping rates, which is nice, but most of these places also label these parts something like "Special Order, to your doorstep in 2-4 weeks" but don't tell me you have items in stock when they're not and then act like it's no big deal for me to wait weeks for them!

Scooter-Speed.com you are THE BEST!! After inquiring with Jet200 after waiting 8 days already for parts that were supposed to be in stock and then being told they hadn't even arrived to their location yet from overseas, I canceled my order with them and ordered from Scooter-Speed.com instead. I ordered late Tuesday night and the parts already arrived today on Friday. Now that's great customer service! Their prices are just a few bucks more for most things (shipping was $7 and change), but I'll try to order more from them from here on out. Yeehaw now that I have a good quality BGM CDI to work with the Kytronik Smart Booster (2.5) I can get this show back on the road! Also got a NGK resistor plug cap (I see that the BGM CDI also comes with a cap so that's cool) and a fender crest.

The scoot runs great with the BGM CDI! No more "cutting out" at high RPM's anymore! However, I can already see a bit of an issue with the Smart Booster. With the Smart Booster plugged in and set on 0 or "transparent mode" (meaning it doesn't affect the timing at all) I get a noticeably weaker spark and with the plug installed and the scoot running it'll barely idle and stalls if not giving it throttle. No changes have been made to the tune. Hmm... So I guess this means I'll need to order their " Spark Magnifier" now?? *sigh*

Wow. But at least it's coming along. Once you get that tune dialed in then you're good to go on the Polini theme, yeah?

Man I'd loved to find a 50 special and tag it as a scooter and make it one of those beast vespa they have over in italy, man those vespa's over there give street bikes a challenge and they rise off the ground with the slightess blip of the throttle,I don't have my m.c endorsement so that's why I'd go the 50 route, can't wait to see how yours turns out

After all the work and $$ poured into this thing I learn that smallframes are the ones with the badass engines! lol

So tempting (who knows I may end up doing just that!) but I'm so damn stuck on the idea of having variable timing for the safer high speed temps that I can't give up just yet. I think I may have gotten it straightened out. I'm now back to the original stock Piaggio stator (I guessing possibly a weak low voltage coil on the Indo stator I've been using). I might be imagining it, but I think my headlight is brighter now too...
