Thanks fellas! You wouldn't believe what a great feeling it is to finally have this wasp running right! I had a little time tonight to go for a decently long ride- well, a long ride to me is 25 miles haha. She really is running great now and I've been real happy that she just starts right up on first kick now even after sitting for a few days. I'm mad at myself though, I had some real good riding vid of thrashing through the gears while it was still daylight but when I looked at the vids on my cam it looks like it accidentally started recording again and filmed a lot of time just sitting at the WaWa while I fueled up and some pretty mundane 50-55 mph riding to Walmart (Where I used layaway for the first time ever in my life for a 43" TV haha). If I had any doubt whatsoever about the fuel pump/high flow tap/regulator combo solving any fuel starvation issues, (The 'side draft' carb setups like mine are well known for fuel starvation issues when the tank gets below 1/2 due to the carb being in a higher location than what a stock 'down draft' carb would be) I don't now as when I got to the gas station and opened up the cap she was almost bone dry and I was riding it real hard on the way there. Check that off the list! She's still getting a little hotter than I'd like but I'm finding that I spend a lot of time in the lower 5k rpm range while cruising at around 55mph. At 6k RPM's in 4th gear I'm going way too fast for normal traffic so I need to choose a different curve on the Smart Booster than the "F" one I'm currently using. With that curve I'm still really advanced with normal driving. I think I'll try "A" and see how that goes before doing any re-jetting... Another thing that I think that's really sinking in is what drc174 mentioned about the Half-wave box exhausts vs. expansion chambers. The more I drive this thing around the more I think he hit the nail on the head. I think I'd probably enjoy the additional torque much more for how I drive than constantly needing to wring this thing's neck RPM wise and from what I'm seeing I really shouldn't see any less RPM's that's for sure! Those Pipe Design exhausts are things of beauty but I'm scared to even get a price quote haha. I'm leaning toward the S.I.P. Road XL over a BGM. S.I.P. sure does do a heck of a job in the description of this exhaust. Gets you excited just reading about it! From what I've read I'm wondering if my setup isn't creating around 20 hp? IDK. I saw a high speed of 63mph today on my GPS. This is the first scoot I've ever ridden that is actually kind of scary. It's a real white nuckle trip trying to let the clutch out and barely hold on with your left hand while throttling up with the right all while this thing tries to pull my arms off and throw me off the back! It sure is hella fun that's all I know!

Seems like a lot of members are finally becoming happy with their rides lately! Keep it up. What temps are you seeing? Are you gonna swap that piston out or just run it as-is.

Yes I do plan to replace that piston. It runs strong the way it is but I still want to replace it. I've been seeing temps up over 400 with long WOT runs. Max temp recorded was 425! (That was a few weeks ago). It has a lot more piston to wall clearance now than it used to thanks to a ball honing and plus a lot less compression. Choosing a different timing curve should cool it down considerably. After that I'd like to address the wide squish but I haven't made up my mind yet how I'll go about it. Either cut the head- This crazy Polini head might cause some headaches there- or machine the cylinder itself down, or maybe even a stroker crank! To exacerbate the situation further, I'm also considering a thicker base gasket (1.5mm) to raise the durations some. Lots of tinkering planned yet!

Another 2 hour ride today! It's so windy out though that it almost makes it unenjoyable. The wind was throwing me around like a rag doll and I could even see that bigger bikes on the road were having problems too. I certainly hope that it makes a good difference in handling when I finally get around to replacing these 36 year old shocks/rubber etc. I'm tuning my carb basically backwards- slowly going larger and larger on the main jet. lol Oh well, each jetting change is an excuse for more riding! I'm up to a 124 right now. I think I really need to fatten up the needle as almost all of my riding is done at partial throttle. I very rarely ever even open it up to WOT. WOT puts me well over 65 mph pretty quickly in 4th gear which is almost always way too fast for where I'm riding. So 95% of my riding is at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and 5k RPMs. It's pretty easy to rejet so I just do it on-the-road. Rejetting at a 7eleven: I said a while back that I'd give this T5 horn cover a chance to grow on me, and it has. It's officially staying!

Nice! That brings back some memories.
200cc 2 stroke. You're in the big leagues. A Yamaha 2 stroke 175 makes 15hp so 20hp for your 200cc sounds about right. That's quite a bit of power. Traffic would have a hard time keeping up from a light.
Yeah, it's blowing out there today and for the last few days actually.

niz76I'd spend the time on tuning the needle. The Polini 24 I have I couldn't get it tuned at all in stock form. It was either overly rich or too lean. I couldn't get it in balance. Swapped out the needle for one from a stock 28 (same jets that were lean) and it brought it in balance and I finally got some good temps. I'm sure your good but if you need some Jets and needles for for tuning I'll loan you my stuff. www.dynoscooter.com/products/needle-set-for-pwk-carburetorsEdit: another tuning tip I discovered is between the 3 PWK carbs I have 21,24,and 28 the slides are all the same dimensions EXCEPT the cut away. If you have other sizes around you could try the different slides to see how it affects your tuning.

Here is what you do.
You take your phone, you put it in your pocket recording engine sound or somewhere where it can record without getting wind.
THEN, you go full through 3rd gear, like a dyno run. You send the file to me, I will harass the germans and I will get you a dyno curve. German engineering magic.

S.I.P. and others have listed this Polini 208 cylinder at 17hp bolted on. With the case porting and other additional goodies I should be in the 20hp range from what I've read. One of the last changes I want to make to my setup is the exhaust. I have about the cheapest, crappiest exhaust there is for a Vespa on there right now. With that and all the other tweaks, this build thread will probably end up being like 100 pages long haha.

The reviews seem good and it's apparently very accurate but looks real technical to use. Ok I will try to get some good data/recordings one of these days and send u a file. The harassing the Germans part sounds like a blast! ha.

It really "only works" with geared two strokes where all the engine details are known, so do not get those hopes up!

Dont stare yourself blind on dyno graphs niz. They can be deceiving as hell!
