On the Korider board thats one of the restrictions they talk about. I already pulled the washer from the variatior and this one didn't have anything on the intake or exhaust. I'm going to get it cleaned up and running and then see if pulling the wire is needed.

So I was finally had a few days off this week and was back on the Hyosung. I got it running and it was idling fast so I put my tach on it and it was 4400rpm. I knew that was wrong when I gave it a little throttle and it shot to 6000rpm. I set the tach for 2 sparks per revolution and it was back in the 2000rpm range. Is it possible its getting 2 parks per Revolution? it runs fine so I'm going to go with this.
I then took all of the plastic and scrubbed it, it was in better shape then it originally looked. The gray plastic is seriously weathered and will need some serious help. That will be for another day I just want to get it running well before I worry about that. I cleaned the engine and frame and its looking pretty good. I then addressed the front brake, the cylinder was dry and sight glass clouded and lots of crystals growing everywhere. I tried finding a rebuild kit but nothing seemed to match so I ordered a new one. The caliper was in much better shape so I'll try and reuse that. I guess I'll wait for the new master cylinder to continue. I'll turn my attentions back on my problem child my ex's Pink scoot. In the 11 years its been in the garage it has run very little and been worked on a lot. I think I have it close to tuned in.

Most of these small scoots are 1 PPR, but if it's right at 2 PPR to be accurate you either are getting 2 spark signals or it's something with the tach. Whatever the case may be, glad it's working.

I realized its been a while since I updated this post. The Pink scoot was running great so of course I started playing and pulled the snorkel and up jetted to account for the additional air. Went for a ride and it soft seized. Duhhh I forgot to move the needle and was riding at half throttle mostly. Put it to the side and decided to finish the Prima. I got the replacement master cylinder in and it was too big to fit under the plastics on the handle bars, debated cutting and hacking or going with naked bars. I found a Hyosung replacement for not much and went for that. I had it running and it was lean so I pulled the 50 jet and replaced with a 67.5 that came with the carb and raised the needle. It ran better but still a little lean. Pulled the carb again and noticed the float was way out wack no where near level. Not sure how it happened but after some head scratching I leveled it up put a 75 jet in and put it back together and no start with out covering the intake on the filter box. Damn I did too many things at once. So time to take it back, dropped the needle, replaced the jet and still running too lean. More head scratching how could having the float level cause a lean condition. The first thing all of the brilliant people say here is check the float. I decided to call it a day and do some research. I found a post from Brent that talked about sometimes the float might need to be a little out of level. So on Tuesday I was off and went back at it. pulled the float and put it back out of level a little and voila it started and ran with out any help. Went for a ride and it was good, just needed to rejet and move the needle again. the 75 jet and the needle up one notch feels right so I tuned in the idle and all was good there.
Time to move to the transmission. I had previously pulled the wedding ring off of the variator so I have no idea what it was like stock. I had heard the stock rollers are heavy but I wanted to get a weight and dimension. They are 9 grams and 17X12 so I think I see some room for improvement. I got the dimensions I needed and put it all back together. Started it up and heard all sorts of racket. Shut it down opened it up again, looked at everything Hmmm, third time was the charm, discovered the variator boss has a slight ridge on one end that needs to go in toward the engine. put it together and it purred like a kitten. Sorry no pictures maybe next time I'm in there I will. I have no idea what purpose it serves but next time its apart I'll look closer. I'm currently trying to decide weather to stay with the stock variator and add sliders or upgrade the variator and sliders. I did run the scoot on its center stand with the cover off and its still not getting the full run of the variator it falls about 7mm short. That's a few MPH left on the table. Any suggestions on stock versus upgraded variator?
Yesterday I decided to investigate the CDI, on Korider they all talk about cutting one wire and derestricting it. Of course no one agrees on which one and I have seen pictures of CDI's with all of the wires cut and then electricians taped back together. I started pulling the wires and started with the one that a few agreed was the right one, no luck, so I started one at a time. Discovered black and yellow were the kill wire in the ignition. Finally found the solid black wire let it still start and the engine seemed to run much smoother with it gone. I started to take it for a run to see and only got a few blocks before I remembered that there was a bike race in town and a lot of street closures with cops on every corner. Not the time to be buzzing as fast as I can through downtown. Good thing I didn't go farther because when I got home it was idling low and then wouldn't start. Damn what is it now? Uhmmm like an idiot I ran it out of gas. Filled it up and it started right up. I'll do my runs tomorrow, I think the race will be gone by then.
Time to get plastics on tomorrow. I tried the heat gun on the seriously sun damaged gray floor boards with okay success but I wasn't really happy. I'll try theo547's bedliner spray on them, it can't look worse, besides I prefer black to the gray they are now. I'll get some before and after shots for you next post.

Sounds like you've made some progress! Adjusting the float can take some trial and error getting the fuel flow just right. I've had good success painting the inside plastics with Krylon Color Master Cover Max Satin black.

Niz, Thanks for the suggestion. I already bought some Rustoleum bedliner spray I was going to try on 2 small pieces. If I'm not happy or its a pain to use I'll try the Krylon.

Gayblade, I'll let you know when I spill gas on it. It does need another coat or two, when I put it back together there were scratches in the edges.

I pulled the variator off and still had the noise so not my sliders. Next time I get to it I'll try pulling the starter gear out and check the flywheel side.

So I have this scoot running well now, I plan to tune the CVT in a little better but otherwise keep it stock. BBK's and exhausts for this are very limited, I'd rather put the money into one of the other scoots where it will give me more bang for the buck. This will just be my coffee getter and quick downtown scooter. Thanks for all of the help, I'll keep you updated on any changes I make.

Sometimes it's good to just have a nice running scoot as a back up. For the money you paid it has worked out well.
