So I'm looking at buying my first semi-automatic pistol tomorrow and have a few on the short list. Now I don't want a bigger is always better trend to devolve as that's simply not the truth. I would like some objective opinions from those who have put more rounds down range then I have. The reason for the purchase is multifaceted and I'm going to attempt to get as close to "one size fits all" as practically possible. My wife and I like remote hiking and camping as well as need home protection and need to easily conceal the weapon. With hiking and personal carry being the primary tasking I'll begin with what I'm looking for.
. Quality . Compact/small frame . safety and extra features (full lock out, chamber peep sight/ Raise tab, mag drop, fiber optics, etc.. . Durability . Ease of use (I have no interest in spending alot of time or rounds at the range to "get used to" or proficient with the gun. Basically just for emergencies have the ability to point at what I don't like and shoot it) . Prefer .380-9mm will consider 10mm(.40) . Polly frame . Not bulky /too chunky (sorry no Glocks) . Must be easy for a non regular shooting female to slide, hold and fire . Sriker prefer but double/single considered . Under $500
I have a couple I'm interested in but am open to suggestions and hearing your experiences. Currently at the top of my list are CZ PO7 (75) duty 9mm or .40 Ruger SR9C standard (not pro) S&W Bodyguard .380 Ruger LC .380
Just to give an idea where my head and wallets at. Thanks.

Me and my son both agree that the cz in a 40 cal is the better one on your list. A Smith and Wesson 40 cal, but they're more expensive.

Co-worker picked up a Taurus .380 for $200 from Cabelas not to long ago. Definetley has the conceal factor. He seems to like it for a Taurus. I'm more of a mak 10 fan myself or a AA-12. Both on my list.

I've always been a fan of the .40cal myself. Isn't heavy and bulky like a .45 or .357 and has way more stopping power than a 9mm imo. Also the recoil is light enough a little girl could handle it.

Thanks. For the input fellas. Here in PA the largest threat animal would be black bear, which just about anything would be enough to scare one away if it began nosing in our camp. So "stopping power" while a concern, isn't my main focus. I would also rather increase my odds of hitting a target under pressire with number of bullets down range versus relying on 1 or 2 shots (that may or may not) hit from a larger caliber gun. Which is another reason the 380 is even an option. Anyone can really man-handle a 380 and many 9mm to really pump lead into a target, much like shooting a .22 Again size and weight are of great importance as I'd rather not have a large mass of weight carried on my side/waist or from my chest/shoulder straps. Living in Philly I also need it to be easily concealled and accessible for the times I'm not in the woods. Guns like any tool as really suited to 1 or 2 areas they perform well, otherwise like any other tool, you need more then one or specialized tools.

From your description, only choice should be the Glock 19. Period. I would spend just little more than your $500 limit, and get the best of the best handgun. Not even a discussion. If you could only spend around $300, there are one or two other options, but if pushed, I'd still opt for the 19. With the new tech in the 9mm ammo, you won't have to compromise "stopping power" anymore. Use cheap 9mm ball ammo for practice, and have two boxes of premium self-defense rounds, and you're set! Remember, only choice is the Glock 19. Period.

Over a decade ago all I had was a pellet-hand metal one, non-airsoft.. It featured a spring pull action system. honestly I kept it empty but it was nice to keep around. Some folks have rifles which are pretty smart in the rural areas and great for range practice. Honestly I haven't been hunting before but been out at night where I've seen some prime deer action going on. I curiously monitored the status of the bear hunting season in Florida, it was short-lived a time.. I must admit a lot of ethical questions get involved but it doesn't concern me too much.

Nice, is that an 18 or 20" barrel? Assuming 5.56/.223 target barrel? Makes my babies look like real toys haha That's a full custom build, .25 air rifle I built. And slightly more powerful is my trusty, crusty 16" .22lr bush basher. www.iforce.co.nz/i/wzgklq1g.jq3.jpgLeft as a link as I've only got field pics of it and I know some people don't like seeing dead animals. Been thinking about picking up a cheap .223 AR or Saiga, but I don't really have the need for anything bigger than a 22lr and I know I'll end up going OTT modding it haha.

Yeppers, 5.56 that will shoot the .223 round. 18 inch barrel and as soon as I get back to work I'll go mad modifying it Your picture had me so confused for a minute until I made out the air gauge on the cylinder (where the barrel should be). Looks wicked cool with that carbon fiber barrel. Is that an aluminum barrel with carbon, or just an end cap?

Nice, have played with a few ARs when I was working as a gun smith, always wanted one of the target barrel .308 AR10 Anderson's we sold.
That's a full length overbarrel suppressor we made, super silent just the ting of the hammer then a thump down range. Will post a few pics of the machine work when I get home.
Want to make one for my rimfire too, planning to chop the barrel down 3" at the same time to make it even more bush friendly.
