Well, after three months and alot of pain, agrivation and awkward use of basically a flipper in the place of my right hand, I finally get to have the screws and plate removed from my hand. I went Friday, my neuro doc said that my nerves and tendon/,sheath and bone have healed enough, that he feels its time to remove my hardware. The hand will still be basically useless for a while, but I should regain at least some functionality after the removal. Many months of P.T. to follow.
All because my damn glove was caught on a crane cable. it lifted me up by my thumb, damn near toreit off. Did rip a tendon, the tendon sheath, and broke four of the little bones in my wrist, also nearly crushed the corpal nerve. I had to wait two weeks after that to get the pulins and shit, due to swelling.
Doc says I should eventually regain full use if my right hand. I hope so. ATM, all three of my scoots have a quad thumb throttle, that I push in with the hard cast to be able to ride.
Can't wait to use a real throttle again.

Thanx, Brent, me too. Also tired of doing the hunt and peck typing, cuz the left hand is no good for a cells keyboard.
Go in a five am for pre-op Should be home by two or so.

Glad to hear you are making progress. Having a hand out of commission is a PITA.
Have you learned anything about cables? -DO NOT TOUCH!!! Those broken strands are not forgiving. They usually mean the cable is due for replacement, -an obvious safety hazard in more ways than one.

Well. I am in a recovery room.
A great deal of pain, even with the oxy-morphone.
That cable was about 6, months over due to be replaced. Part of my job, was keeping tension on that damn cable, after the steel was unhooked, to prevent tangles. Dude replaced the cable the very next day, at almost eight grand. I had to hire a lawyer, cuz workers comp in Ky. is a joke. Still haven't been approved. Since I can still use my left hand, I can't even get temporary disability.
By some measure of fate I was the first person to be yanked up by THAT cable, but not the first to be injured by that crane. Dude had someone get nearly killed, when the winch clutch burned and a four thousand pound chunk of steel dropped. Guess I was lucky.
Going to try to pass out for a while.

Sounds like that crane operator should lose his job and the company needs to be cited by OSHA.
Glad you are ~OK today!

I blame the owner of the company. The way it is, the operator is at a bad vantage point to see the cable end. The crane is built into the drill, its a hell of a contraction. Its basically a modified water well drill. Uses a five cylinder diesel as a motor for the hydraulic and pneumatic pumps. The whole thing is built on to a flat bed semi. When folded down, the truck is five foot longer than a full sized school bus. The drill/crane unit swivels again by use of a massive hydraulic pump using three inch diameter lines. Itsbkinda cool, but dangerous all by itself. Add an owner that is too cheap to keep up maintenance, and an operator that sits behind a major blind spot, and you got a whole new type of scary!

The equipment is dangerous all by itself, but when you add an owner that will run equipment till it falls apart, then tie it together with bailing wire and do it all over, bad bad things can happen. I was extremely lucky, it could have been so much worse. To top it off, my lawyer is telling me that was employed as a sub contractor, and therefore can not file for workers comp. WTF??? I showed him copies of my pay stubs where workers comp was taken out, he said he'd look in to it. I already started lookeding for a different lawyer.

You don't need a lawyer to get your workmans comp. The hospital that you were admitted to on the day of injury will have the information on who your employers insurance carrier is. Get the name of that insurance company and call them. Start the claim yourself if your employer has refused to do it. Once you get approved you will get back pay from the date of injury.

I was a dumbass, I thought my thumb might be just sprained or dislocated. I got injured on Wednesday, and went to the hospital at five am Friday.
I think that's a large part of things. The day it happened, my hand was sore, but not as bad as the next morning, but I hate doctors and hospitals, so tried not to go. That was totally stupid.
I may have ruined my chances at a successful law suit.
