Oh yeah, you're gonna love that pipe and cylinder on that Derbi. I definitely want to hear how this one works out!

A buddy of mine had an old piaggio zip with an athena sport like yours, but all stock and with stock exhaust. Pulling wheelies all the time and topping out around 50/52mph but with lots and lots of torque! That Yasuni R will even add to that! What carb you're running? Stock (12mm? 17.5mm?) ?

I can't really do much scooter work without the lift.

spaz12 LoL just so happens I got the scooter lift back to the warehouse yesterday, I had to go fetch it but at least it's back. This morning I put the Derbi on the lift and got started on the upgrades. This is my first alum, cylinder kit and it is my first time working on a Piggy motor. Everything is different, but familier so disassembly went well. However the Athena kit is not cooperating at all. I am a bit dissatisfied with the quality of the kit, I thought Athena was supposed to be better stuff than this. The head looks like it missed being milled? Because the combustion chamber is just raw grainy casting. And the setup of the cylinder sucks so far. With no base gaskets the piston does not come close to uncovering the ports all the way, and the squish is .95 without a head gasket. Using the thickest metal base gasket they sent .40 gets the piston almost to the bottom of the ports, but squish ends up 1.3 or so. WTF! What squish should I aim for with this kit? OK I found the recommended squish for this kit is 1mm which I think is kinda big IMO but what do I know Lol!Help anyone? A step cut head is one way out of this.

I've had 4 or 5 Athena kits (Mina) and none of them have looked like that. I don't know how that one slipped through the cracks, unless the one's for the Piggy are supposed to look like that? Unlikely though. Squish for the Minarelli is .90mm

Looks like that head didnt get cut!How much of the barrel is above the piston at TDC?Be glad to step cut the head if needed..I'd send a pic to the seller and bi*ch about it first though...

With 0 base gaskets the piston is flush with cylinder at TDC, but at BDC the piston is around .5-6 above the floor of the transfers. Squish is .95 torqued. I have no clue what the durations are, currently debating whether to set up the degree wheel or not. I was hoping to slap this kit on and be done with it, we are so busy at work I just don't have the time to tweak it right now. I have two choices I think. I can slap it on with a .1 base gasket so the squish will be at the recommended 1 mm, but the transfers will not be opening fully. Or I can do it right, set up the degree wheel, check some numbers, and get you to fix the head for me. FYI I am feeling kinda lazy right now.

Athena should be the same than the Stage 6 Sport 189/131 at 0.85 Athena paper with kit say set squish at 1mm Bunch o' noobs That said, on my "chill" street setup it was 1.05, it was only when I went for 12.000rpm that I went up to 0.85, which I am glad it survived

Guess y'all have been busy lately with this flamin' heat wave!A most important aspect to any 2T setup is a piston is FLUSH with the bottom of the transfers at BDC,the inrushing mixture cools the top of the piston...Try to set it up that way and see how the rest of the numbers add up...
