I think we may have several dual-sport bike owners here...
I think I want to buy a used dual-sport bike, so I could go on one-day adventure rides with me nephews (one has one, and the other wants to get an adventure bike soon). I definitely want to get one that's street legal with plates and all the lights. I'm guessing they want to travel half/half roads, and off-roads.
I've never even rode a moto-x or off-road motorcycles, so I don't know where, or what to look for... Could yous youts help me where I should look for researching, or what kina bikes?? Any good forums for dual-sport / adventure specific motorcycles (like 49ccscoot)??
Thanks!

My 400, even with the sprockets I have on it now doesn't really like the freeway. Try to find a 450 or bigger and liquid cooled.

Hmmm, not good bike, huh?

Spaz, I think those bikes are too big for me, and are too much like a pure dirt bike. I think I may need like a trail bike... My nephew will be getting this: and me other nephew will be riding this:

If you're going to trailer it then there's nothing wrong with it. I ass umed that you were going to ride it there.

I've road everything I can get my hands on. I really like the 650 duel sports but the 350 to 400 are lighter. If highway speed (70 plus)isn't needed even a 250 is ok but the bigger motors are more forgiving off road you just pay for it with extra weight. In 5 ft 7 in with a 30 in inseam and have road lots of bikes with a seat height over 35 in with out a big issue. Just have to shift off to the side of the seat to touch at a stop. Most you can lower some if needed fairly easy. I really like the kawasaki klr650 for an all around bike

Can't best a KLR 650 for usability and value. I'd like to get an SM 400

With a bike like a Triumph Tiger your not going to be tackling any serious off road route. something like a Kawasaki KLR, Suzuki DRZ, or perhaps even some thing like a Vstrom might fit the bill.
