I wish I had a dual sport in my fleet. I been pondering selling the suzuki to get one. To be able to pull off the road and ride a good trail on the same bike is pretty cool.

No, I was gonna drive there with trailer and trailer it back.
Hmmm, not good bike, huh?
If you're going to trailer it then there's nothing wrong with it. I ass umed that you were going to ride it there.
Oops, sorry, I meant that it's a good deal for the Suzuki, but I have to drive to San Francisco to purchase. haha
yeah, don't know if I want to drive 9 hrs with a trailer to just get a real good deal...
Well, I'm 5'-9", but I'm not used to those tall dirt bikes with that I could barely touch the ground. I want to get both feet, or at least toes on the ground... heh

Seems like we will be doing more of the Adventure type riding... Looked at ads all weekend, and I really like the BMW F650GS Dakar.

Same as an R6?!?! What?? are you sure? That's just nuts... I wonder why they priced it so high...
Yes, the WR is super fun! Even went off-road for the first time on the stock road tires... really fun!

It was the time when Europe had a financial meltdown in the market. That and a really high yen ment a lot of bikes all of a sudden became 3 to 4 thousand pounds more expensive. As the R6 was a current model and Yamaha had a lot in stock the price did not go up for about a year. The WR as a new model went straight in at the new price.

Hey Senna1Rossi...just found this post. I was going to post up with my newest project. (Many not finished)
I do not know what you ended up doing, or IF you did. Why I an responding is from my look see into the latest fun in dual sport versus "adventure" riding.
First, my opinion. I had a WR400 and WR250 in Montana. The 250 was setup as an "adventure" bike. My friends all laughed, as they had KTM 990, Honda Africa twin, Kawa Versys 650...all big bikes. Do you want to guess who kicked ass on the trails? The road portions were limiting, for the WR, but...try to pick up an overloaded KTM Adveture from a 3foot deep river cross. Yeaaa...WR. WE did not go wimp-ass either. Usually 80 to 120 miles of dirt, over the western divide between MT and ID.
Yes, I carried extra fuel. I carried very little else. Washed clothes when needed.
My point? I now have a Honda CRF250L. Wimpy offroad, decent on. My planned mods are extensive, but simple. Better suspension, a good power increase and the addition of flat track type tires and wheels. Yes! 19" front and rear...the super motard setup is good for street, not for dirt. The motocross tires are good for dirt and suck on the street. The dirt track tires...in hard DOT compound? Bad ass!!
We tested a few 2T's this way, (KTM/YZ) and one Kawa four stroke...on lap times the flat track setup was consistently faster and safer handling than any SM or off-road setup. My choice is the dual sport with flat track 19's at both ends.
Soo much fun!

You will not do better than a dr350 for capability and parts availability for like no money,,,94-99 electric leg ,,,with minimal mods it's a world tour machine again for like no money,,,you can build one like I did for well under $3000 ,,,out of the 60 bikes I have owned it's in the top 10 easy if not the top 5

That is..good shite! I loved my WR, but time will tell. If you are mainly street, you will have a great time. (Remember though, change the oil, clutch and valve adjustments waaaaaay more often) If you see the need to go off road, the dirt track setup will blow your mind! I am now 62 years stupid. I love my sideways steering, yet under-powered CRF! Tune ups required...uhhh, maybe after my demise!
BTW...I have done laps at Pahrump in both cars and bikes..maybe 2008 or so last time!

Yes, SMMR track is really fun!

Senna1Rossi, I just came across this thread. Not sure if you ever got a good answer, or what you bought, if any thing.
Here are some thoughts for anyone who GAS: I now have a 2015 Honda CRF250L. Looks like a CRF, acts like motard or street bike, depending on tire/wheels. It will never be an MX'r.
For off road with good knobbies at 21"/18", it is a decent "Trail" bike. Not a MX bike at all. With 17" fat width rim spokes, it is super nice on the road and not bad in the rain. Super-moto style, as I am currently riding it. (I often hand groove for rain)
Many will tell you that bigger is better. (350's/400's/650's) IMO that is very subjective. I rode mine with stock gearing on 17"s, over 800km in one day, on the highway. The seat is not great for that. My tiny petrol tank meant 6 stops for fuel. Never an issue with rpm. Rode around 6500 rpm the whole day, in the heat.
My Yamaha WR250 was a better off-road bike...horrible on pavement. I find the CRF250L has just the right give and take for it's design. I call that 75% on and 25% off. Off meaning trails, not MX or rock climbing or hill climbing. The complaints I hear are from those who use it the other say around. They bought the wrong bike, I think.
Regardless, I love mine! I commute with it for longer drives. (Scooter for local) I can get off on a canal road or trail and still have a blast. I just ordered a CBR300R head pipe, (ala dirt track style) plus two CBR cams and a 38mm throttle body. I was "challenged" by some doubters that I can get that 250 to 25 bhp. They go BBK and crazy mods to get 24. Easy money!
My secret weapon is proper design, balancing,(crank) port polishing and ceramic bearings. Never done ceramics on a CRF250L before. All above mods cost under $150, plus my own labor...except the ceramics which look to be around $500.
Let me know if you are still considering a dual sport...after a few years, hehe! I have ridden most everything, crashed many and blown up a few. Since I quit road racing at age 50, I have spent my time with dual sports or in the shop...OK, OK...I have a TRX850 too!
