Hi all -
I'm looking to get some info on fine tuning my Super 8 50 2t. Here's my current mods:
2013 Kymco Super 8 50 2T
- Malossi 70cc BBK
- Dellorto Malossi 19mm Carb jetted to 105 (Running rich, might jet down to 100 and pull plug chops) - Technigas Next R Exhaust
- Malossi Blue Clutch Springs/Purple Contra Spring
- Modified Stock air box - UNI Red Filter/2 1/2 inch Holes
- Top Racing Variator w/ 5 gram Dr. Pulley Sliders
Acceleration is excellent throughout the powerband, but top end is only around 45mph. I thought for sure I'd get at least 55mph-60mph. I have a 21mm Intake Manifold on the way as I was thinking the scoot needs more air. Should I be getting way more top end than what I currently have with my setup, and are any of my current mods above hindering potential performance that you can see? Or do I need something more?
Thanks!

When you changed the variator did it come with a new drive boss or use the one that is stock? If it's the stock one that maybe where your restriction is as the stock one came with a washer attached that stops the variator from fully closing and gaining anymore speed. Yes you should be going a lot faster my pure stock ZX50 hits 70KPH(44MPH) yours should easily hit 50-55MPH

That's what has me confused with what you stated with regards to top speed. I should going faster top end, but it has me scratching my head too. So you think it might be a variator issue?

As far as I know KYMCO only restricted the variator on the Super8 unlike US ZX50 that also came with a CDI restricting as well

Do you know what the final drive ratio is like 190mech mentioned? You can put a marker/piece of tape on top of your rear wheel and another on top of clutch bell, turn the clutch bell and count the # of rotations it takes to make the rear tire turn once. However many turns it takes of the clutch bell to the rear wheel is your final drive ratio. ie if it takes 13 turns of the clutch bell to make the rear tire turn once, that's 13:1 ratio for example...

Hi Tiny - Thanks for checking. I noticed that's the 4-stroke info. I found the 2-stroke information in a different service manual for the reduction ratios (final drive changed) as follows: Kymco SUper 8 50 2T 1st Reduction Ratio: 3.113~0.895 2nd Reduction Ratio (final drive): 14.69 With that said, are these ratios hindering my top end? If so, I'm guessing I don't have a ton of options?

Crap didn't realize that was the 4t info my goof. Looking over the KYMCO forum pages looks like the Super8 also has a restriction on the CDI as well. Link to page www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=455.0 That maybe your issue as well. I keep forgetting that outside of Canada most scooters are heavily restricted to 35MPH(56KPH) or less. Here in Ontario 50's are limited to a max of 70KPH(44MPH) so only the Variator restriction is there. Don't worry we will get your scooter to the correct speed soon enough.

If you are hitting 45, I don't think you have any restrictions. If you could only go 35, either your cdi or variator would be restricted. Do you know what your rpms are?

Tuning w/o a tach ties one hand behind your back. Final drive ratio is too high. Needs to be more like 12:1 or a little less. The newer Next Rs may rev alittle higher but the ones from around 10 years ago cut off totally by 9.5k.

look at what I got lol similar to you but you should have taller gears than my Like. your weights are WAY TO LIGHT I liked 9 gram Malossi rollers in my multivar but have gone with 8g Dr Pulley sliders as they lst longer and seem to be more consistent. I will probably move up to 9g slider soon though. Also I have been told our engines like the 21 mm carb better than 19 not only more power but also better mileage. Also the NextR is a good pipe I have the chrome version myself but the Stage 6 Pro Rep or Tecnigas TEK TREK or Qtre perfomr better than NextR.
