Did a bit of math here. In order for someone to be able to afford 2 his and her's TaoTao's, with EVERY performance part I listed in the first post on each one, and have it done by a pro, the labor cost must be under $616.
Calculated by taking $3390/2=$1695 budget for each scooter
$1695-$1387 spent so far = $308 in labor x2 bikes = $616 allocated for labor costs.
So my question for myself, is can SS Collision and cycleworks pull it off for $300 or less? Would this be a reasonable fee to charge someone if they asked you to do it for them?
The guys at SS, will be doing the labor here and there as their time permits. This actually saves me money because they have not been given a deadline, and will not need to focus on the project. I don't know what the ACTUAL labor bill will be, but for the sake of number crunching. If I want to hit that goal of being able to buy 2 TaoTao's both performance enhanced instead of 1 Zuma and have it done by pros. That's where my number needs to be.

I am puzzled by this. you are trying to do a budget build yet having someone else install the parts. Ok maybe you NEED them to do it for whatever reason. I still see no need for the labor to be counted in the build, as almost all of us would simply DIY it. Oh and PS. I wish I could get paid $300 for installing the parts.

I NEED them to do it, to show the price difference .vs doing it yourself. I am being theoretical about buying 2 scoots. And NO this is NOT a budget build. This is a performance review based on one distributor and all the parts they list as "performance". One variable I didn't mention, is that I am supplying SS with additional parts should they need them. Different slider weights, different jet sizes, even a pod filter. And yes I am aware of what has been stated about CDI's and coils and anything else that has been listed that one realistically, does not need. For instance, instructions for the CDI will be KEEP THE STOCK ONE. TRY the performance one, if it affects starting... ditch it.. If it's OK and DOES gain, use it. Rollers/Sliders I'm going to instruct start with 5 gram, decide if necessary to go lighter with provided 4g or heavier with provided 6g.Possibly even mix them up a bit. So, yes, the scoot WILL be undergoing other tweaks and tunes here. I will only add them to the final cost and parts breakdown... AFTER the scoot is finished. As I said before, a more budget conscience person can find a better deal quite easily.

Now if I wanted to do this RIGHT and challenge the Zuma 125. Zummer clone, eBay engine, and props and points to the "victim" vendor for this pending review. They have PERFORMANCE parts for the 150cc engines too www.scrappydogscooters.com/125_150cc_Performance.htmlAnybody wanna shell out the cash and try it themselves? I don't need 5 motorized vehicles, otherwise, I'd try THAT challenge as well.

Hey Guys,
I am curious about the oil cooler. Is it necessary? and if so, why? I am not trying to start anything bad here just want to know the benefit to putting on an oil cooler on a 50cc gy-6. As you can probably tell from the question I'm just a noob!! Thank you, rik

I've seen my oil temp hit 280F on my 49cc TaoTao. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/16180/139qmb-cooler-information-installation-help

No, it is absolutely NOT necessary. Save yourself the money. This is only being added as a luxury accessory. Same thing with the fan. You DO NOT need it. Probably safe to say you DO NOT need the CDI or Coil. Hey, that's what I'm here to help find out!!! I just tossed into my cart whatever said "performance this, performance that". Not giving any background research into any component. I'll leave that to the crew at SS Collision & Cycleworks to figure out. As for the oil cooler, in the Email I sent SS about doing one. I actually included a link to one of Brent's articles. These are motorcycle guys. Kinda throwing them a curve ball and testing their technical knowledge by having them customize a scooter. The "HELP" link I sent them from Brent's info, is: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/16180/139qmb-cooler-information-installation-help

I am being, if anything... sincere. This is an actual investment into a scooter. Parts that are not needed, like the oil cooler, have only been included in the cost to promote a healthier, and longer engine life. If you can't make it stronger, better, faster... then at least give it a chance to live longer by always keeping it cool.
EDIT: Pun intended... don't "FLOYD" your engine!!!

Thank you very much for the info and all the hard data concerning the oil cooler. I will be getting one of these as I would like my engine to last for a bit longer. My last question on this issue is when you do your oil changes for maintenance do you have to prime the cooler every time? Once again guys, thank you for all your help. rik

BTW, BONUS REVIEW here. The guys at SS Collision & Cycleworks are ALSO going to be running my 86' Spree on the Dyno.
That one has: TAZLAND BBK TAZLAND GEARS MLM SIDEBLEED PEOPLE'S PIPE.
So I'll post some stats for the big 3 upgrades most commonly done to the Honda Spree... But we'll save that for a different topic.

My last question on this issue is when you do your oil changes for maintenance do you have to prime the cooler every time? I would do the same process as the install shows for adding oil, but not prime it. Mine didn't drain all of the oil that I had in the system, but it was more than the engine capacity alone. That's why you should do multiple checks of oil level to be certain it's full IMO.

Brent, you should consider doing a video on the install of the oil cooler. When I first got it, I had Emailed scrappydogscooters about instructions, since it did not come with any. What they responded with, was just a YouTube video showing one installed on a scoot and not the actual procedure, and I was like "HUH??" Other searches around the net, have been less then helpful. Pretty sad that the only help I could pass along my cycle guys, was a write-up by you on it. Not that I am doubting SS and their talent. They have done some pretty sweet customizing around town.
EDIT: This is the video provided by scrappydogscooters
