nelson yes it is a Malossi, the only kit I could find for it. I wish I could hit 10500rpm at the moment the best I have is 5400rpm. I have seen a few pictures with a pipe like that as stock. I may clean it up and give it a try once I have the stock one running right. Spent the day tuning. Started with the stock variator with 7g sliders and the parts bike clutch and bell. Nothing new still topped at 5000rpm. On the stand the belt traveled to the top of the variator. Next I tried the Malossi Multivar with 4gram rollers. It could barely get out of its way. Top rpm 4700rpm. It could get to 40mph on a flat. The belt traveled so far up on the stand I fear that it will come off. Next I went to 5.25gm and it was better but still sluggish. So I decided to put in 1500clutch springs on the OEM clutch with the parts bike aftermarket bell. The contra on the OEM clutch was stiffer than the Malossi yellow spring that came with the variator. Definitely and improvement I got it to 5400rpm and 45mph. It sounded good and pulled well. Tomorrow I'll go to 4gram weights and take it for a longer ride to see how fast I can get it and if I can get the RPM's up. I have stiffer springs on order but I am running out of ideas.

Is your pipe clogged? Dirt daubers, lots of carbon, etc?
I'd be tempted to swap that expansion chamber off your parts bike and see what difference it makes. Only revving to 5k is weird.

So yesterday I did I some more tuning. I have the weights at 5gram with the 1500 clutch springs and the unknown stiffest Contra Spring I had. I'll wait until my new springs come to do more with the CVT. I decide to work to check the jetting and didn't have another Denso plug and couldn't find the B9HS plug that was recommended so I went to a B8HS plug. I was able to get into the 7000's on my RPM and but it was running rough. I got back and checked the plug and it was running lean. I was waiting for my Mail Person to bring my needles and jets from Treatland and they were running their usual late delivery so I quit for the day. I went ahead and ordered some NGK B9HV (a plug that also cross referenced to the Denso plug) that I will also try. I find it interesting that these different plugs make such a difference in my engine speed. I have 4 days of hell with work coming up so I don't know when I'll get back to it.

I Spent the afternoon tuning the carb in. I thought I bought a supply of needles from treatland but I must have not put them in my Taco or basket or what ever they call it. I started at 78 MJ A9 needle up 1 notch, no go. Went to 76 MJ still no go. went back to 72 MJ and it was okay WOT but crap in between. Changed needles to one that came with my other clone Dellorto Carb. It had no number but had more of a taper, I put it one notch down. It ran better. I put the NGK B9HV plug in and rode around and it is much closer now. The HV plug has a small electrode like an Iridium plug but doesn't say Iridium on it like the Denso plugs. I got a 4 pack on ebay for $12 and they came pre-gapped to .5mm. I called it a day and looked at my Zuma find. More on that thread.

I decided to clean the garage because I was tripping over scooters and parts. I now have all of them tucked away in the order I plan on working on them.
I got back to the Derbi. when I last worked on it before I quit I cleaned out the exhaust by running water through it. It seamed slow at first and then the water flowed nicely. I didn't see any thing come out but who knows. I left it to dry out. Today I decided to try the 8HS plug first It was okay. I then ran the A/F mixture screw all the way in and it ran okay maybe a little rich. Hmmmm, I pulled the pilot jet that was what came with the carb and it was a 48. I had a 40 I put in. It ran better but still not there. I took the MJ down to a 69. It was better yet and my RPM's were up. I then decided to lower the needle to the leanest and discovered it was there. I then put the W9 needle back in at the leanest setting. I ran much better but still not perfect. I changed back to the 9HV plug and bingo it was definitely in the ball park. No stumble, I saw 8700rmp. It was definitely close. The engine was running much warmer, the needle was in the center of the gauge. I pulled the plug and it was looking a little lean. Tomorrow I'll start with the needle out 1 notch then try a 70mj it the needle doesn't do it. It definitely had some power I can't wait to take it on a longer run and see what it will do.
The handling is very nice and the seating position though its very upright it feels good. Maybe I'll get some tuning in tomorrow before work. Next week will be a crap week for me so I need to get it done now.

Howz your air filter look?Partially clogged filters will need down jetting(I learned that the hard way!)...

The filter is brand new and oiled. Maybe too much oil, I'll check that.
So I got the needle raised one notch and it was much better and running cooler. While it was warm I got the idle tuned in. It ran great through the whole throttle, temperature was good just below center. I was able to see 9700 RPM and it was accelerating going up a long hill. Had to go to work again but I have a day off tomorrow. So This is where things are: 65cc Malossi LC kit 19mm Dellorto Clone 69mj, 40PJ 50Starter jet w9 needle one notch up Malossi Multivar with 5gram weights Stock Torque driver and drive faces Unknown after market clutch bell Stock expansion exhaust
Its seems strange that a 69mj is good for this, other people are in the 80's and 90's. The stock 14mm carb had a 66mj and it felt rich. Tomorrow I'll play with the CVT and check the air filter. Possibly pull the snorkel it looks very restrictive. I may pull the exhaust off of the parts bike and see If it does anything. But of course one thing at a time. This is a nice running scoot now and I'm looking forward to doing more tuning on it.

I took 190mech's advice and blotted some of the oil off of the air filter. I took it out and it was running rough again. I then looked at the air flow into the air box and realized it was way to restrictive: The are passes through those 3 openings But first it squeezes through the snorkle I pulled the snorkel off. I figured that I would need to rejet and play with the needle again but no it was great. I did have to readjust the A/F screw but that was all. It ran great and I took a nice ride on it. I got it up to 9200rpm then it would drop down to 5400rpm but keep its speed. eventually I could rev it back up and the speed would go up. Can anyone tell me what thats about?

I spent yesterday cleaning up the body as much as I could. I used rubbing compound on it then polished it with Honda polish. Here are some pics: I was able to get some of the smaller spatters of black paint off but the big areas are going to be harder: Does anyone have a suggestion for how to get rid of that. I know I'll need to paint the areas with bare plastic so I'm not worried about that. I went for a ride this morning and after about 20 minutes when it was good and warm it started hesitating and wouldn't go over 7500rpm. The temperature was barely over halfway so I don't think It was soft seizing. Here is the plug: Does that dark spot on the base mean anything? I'm off to work now but I hope to have time in the morning to take a ride with a clean plug.

Did some more tuning after I voted, so many early voted here that there were only 4 people in line in front of me. I went to a 72 main jet and it was better but felt a little rich mid throttle. I put in the unknown jet and it was a little better so I raised the clip to the leanest position and it was much better. Played with plugs and settled on the Denso 27 (same as NGK 9). Went for a ride around town and it ran well but still had some hesitation. I opened the CVT and found that the Malossi Multivar bushing came loose. I put the stock one back in with 7gm sliders and it was okay. I think I need to wait for the needles to get a better tune on this. One question I have is that I'm getting carbon build up on the base of the plug, but only in one spot. Here is a picture of 2 different plugs: It seems to change position, maybe one wasn't in as tight as the other. What could be causing this?

Is the plug wet when pulled? Could be washing it clean most fo the way around.
