i got a new head the other day. I installed it today and the scooter does not run. It's a 47mm head. it was the only one the guy had at the scooter shop. I have a 47mm kit on my scoot so I thought it would be fine. I needed a new head due to a stripped stud hole
at first it wouldn't start, then it started but it would not idle, then i got it to idle but i had no power. I was going maybe 3 mph. then I adjusted the valves again. I found the bolt on the exhaust rocker came off. I guess I didn't tighten it enough. after that it ran ok up and down the alley. When I tried to start it again, it would not start. checked my valves again, they were around .004, where they should be, right? I have spark because I was able to start it here and there. do you think I am not getting fuel? I have noticed that spacer thing on my intake was not lined up with the hole on my new head, could that be restricting the fuel?

I don't have a tester yet. If I'm not mistaken they can be rented from auto zone.

Many of the kits don't have the proper size adapter for scooter spark plugs. I know this one does.... Compression Test Kit

If you want to find out if the tester has the right adapter for you, the 139QMB uses 10mm spark plug threads. Autozone has loaner tools as well as others.

I'm not ruling anything out. I'll test it for a leak tonight.

my finger test shows not a lot of compression. I know that's not accurate but it's all I got so far. I think I may also have messed up my starter or wore out my starter bendix. a guy at one of the local scooter shops has an atm50 taking up room in his shop. it may be worth the $100 he wants for it just for parts.

Check valve lash and that the valves are seated properly

thxcuz I would buy that atm-50. Even if it doesn't run, it is worth more than that in scrap metal much less parts. Hell, the atm-50 frame is better than the VIP I have. It might possibly weigh more but it can take more of a beating. Though I may be wrong. You could piece it out on eBay and make more than double if you tried. So it is worth the $100 for parts. I say do it.
