Stupid hurricane made me have to do stuff other than work on the Derbi today. Then the governor tells me to leave? Is he going to find me a place to stay that will take my dog, cat, and three turtles.
I have a fridge full of beer and lots of peanut butter. Party time!

Where you at? They have evacuated the immediate coast here. I am 1.4 miles from the beach. I dont think we have much to worry about unless things change. I have been armchair forcasting these things for years! Lol!

Be safe you guys...I know they almost ALWAYS exaggerate these storms to try to scare the crap out of folks but, this one actually looks like it could be pretty bad...depending upon where you are.
Be careful and, tie down the scoots.

South of West Palm Beach nothing but a few spotty showers and an occasional wind gust. South of West Palm Beach there was absolutely no reason to put up shutters or close businesses today.
I've seen thunderstorms FAR more violent than today's "hurricane" weather.
If you live north of West Palm Beach near the coast, you might want to batten the hatches tonight.

I'm in Savannah. We're not supposed to see anything really until Saturday morning. I live in the old part of town, it'd take something truly brutal to do more than give us some downed branches and power outages.

Hope all that are in the path of Matthew will be safe and prepared for the worse and all warnings are taken seriously. I know up here we still have a little grace period before its here too. Hopefully it looses some energy before it get here. We have been in a drought for the most part of the summer and the trees here are in rough shape. The last rain we had came with a little wind and the branch loss was horrible. Spent a day cleaning mine and neighbors yard. I cant imagine what more wind is going to do with the trees here. Don't think its going to be pretty. Never mind the flooding.

Good luck to you.
I can understand the reasons for evacuation. But I also know that I wouldn't want to leave my home knowing that I'd probably not be able to get back right away. I can't think of a possession more important than my home. I'd want to be keeping an eye on it. I'd be more tempted to cover the windows and ride it out.
I suppose the folks who don't evacuate are sticking around for more or less the same reason. I can't blame them.

Florida got pretty lucky. Weather patterns shifted and it got dropped to a Category 3 and it never really moved onto land.

South Florida actually sees very few hurricanes. Andrew in 1992 and Wilma in 2005 were the last major storms to hit South Florida. Most of them go North. Louisiana and North Carolina get hit more by hurricanes than south Florida.
But like the earthquakes in California, occasionally the big one hits.
Seems like the rule of life is ....no matter how many pluses anything has, it HAS to have negatives to balance it out.

Florida got pretty lucky. Weather patterns shifted and it got dropped to a Category 3 and it never really moved onto land. That was predicted a few days ago. It would lose strength and not batter the coastline too much. I used to work on an island in the gulf, Pine Island area, and I went through 1 force 5 hurricane (Kate in 1985). That is a force of nature not to mess with. I live in MI., we don't get killer weather, just a windstorm once in a while that might tear a roof up. We do get a rare tornado. 1 hit 2 years ago about 3 miles from me. We didn't even have high winds at my place, but the tornado went for 22 miles and destroyed some farms and houses. That was too close for comfort!

Over here on the Tampa Gulf side we just got grey skies today and wind gusts- no rain. I was still out cleaning pools all day. Of course at one of the commercial pools- Microtel- they always throw all the plastic pool furniture into the pool in preparation for any big storms. It was packed there today with refugees from the East Coast and of course all the furniture was in the pool. lol.
