Nice catch Brent!! I tried the same on my daughters scoot to see if I could simulate what he was getting. When I removed the air box cover and filter, hers did the exact same thing.

It worked, and I now hate everything... I spent so long trying to get it running by messing with the carbs settings and it was just that

It happens. Cheer up, it's good news! You're headed in the right direction now. I think I paid $15 for the last whole airbox I bought for my TaoTao (eBay).

So, does anyone know where I can get a new rear tire and a new battery cover for an ATM50-a1?

Yep, same place I linked to on page 2, www.eagleatvparts.com/Again, that is the OFFICIAL TaoTao North America parts supplier. In fact, they carry probably every part you could possibly think of, even pre-painted body panels. Optionally, check eBay for a better price, but a slimmer chance.

If your looking for tires, I recommend Michelin's. You can probably find cheaper, but don't compromise your safety to save a couple bucks, go with a proven performance brand. You'll want 3.50" tires for the ATM50-A1, here's a link to what I would (and do), use: www.revzilla.com/product/michelin-s1-scooter-tires

Well, the seat broke at some point, and when I sit on it, it pushes the carb out of place.

In the middle of the seat there is a opening that lets you reach the carb just take the opening latch off with a screwdriver to expose the carb that will hold you till you can get a replacement.

Also, apparently the points that the seat rests on that are a part of the frame are bent. We are going to have to have them repaired and we will possibly reinforce them.

If I do run it without the plastic on it, what do I do about the headlight?

Just replace it with an aftermarket one from your local parts store, hell I'd bet walmart might even have something. As long as it's 12 volts and the scoot can handle the needed amps, your golden.

If I do run it without the plastic on it, what do I do about the headlight? You'll have to use a little creativity for the mount. I'm just switching my TaoTao to naked bars and I think I'm going to end up welding something to the frame to support the light. If the whole scoot was naked, then it would probably be easier to mount the light without needing anything extra welded on. I like keeping front panels though, because they keep some wind and road debris off of you. Scrappy has the rear handlebar cover... but unfortunately it's for the other variation of the "sunny" style scooter. Still, may be a good source if you end up needing anything else... www.scrappydogscooters.com/Sunny_style_parts.html
