I have a 50cc Chinese Scooter. Put the new carb on it today because the old one was bad. My question is this; the scooter starts and runs like crap with the electric choke on but without it runs fine. What can or will happen with running the scooter without the electric choke hooked up?

It maybe harder to start in cold weather but, other wise no real bad things will happen. I suspect other issues. Did you pull off the auto choke or just unplug the electrical connection? Did you have similar problems with the old carb?? Just asking questions as I am NO expert but, Have you adjusted the valves yet??

I unplug the electrical connection and it did backfire and give me probs with the old carb but the problems were much worse than this. I have yet to adjust the valves (as I am a noob at doing that but will learn). Scooter has 1800 miles on it.

Adjusting the valves may solve all your problems IMO. Instead of spending more money throwing parts at the scoot, try getting it back in tune. When it backfired were ya giving it gas trying to start? I really suggest buying a feeler gage and getting those valves loosened up. At 1800m your way over due. Do some research yourself first, like watching how to vids and such. I was very nervous about doing it my first time but, once you get past that it's a 15min job and you'll be amazed how much better it runs. 1 mm does make a big difference Please don't just trust me!! do a little searching you can thank me later If you need any help please ask!!!

Will do. I may just do that in a couple of days. I figured they needed to be done as well. Its not the doing them that seems hard (found lots of info on how to do it) just such a tiny as space to work with lol. This scooter has made :banghead: a lot mainly due to the old owner was an idiot and beat the piss out of it.

I agree. The valve adjustment will do wonders if they are tight. It'll run like a new scooter again with properly adjusted valves. Un-plugging the choke isn't a good idea. You have to get to the root cause of the issue and valves are a good place to start. It's really not very hard at all. It's nothing to get intimidated about.

Yeah it wasn't that bad just a shitty area for it to be in. The frame was in the way big time to get the cover off but I did it. Runs great now, I get speeds around 35 to 40mph. I still have the electric choke disconnected which I belive is why I get a backfire (which I can deal with for now). I will try it with the electric choke connected to see what happens. I apperciate all the input and advice!

Does it backfire while starting or while riding? If your giving it to much throttle while starting, it will flood things a bit and cause a backfire. Plug that enricher back in and re adjust the a/f and idle after its warmed up. If you still suspect the enricher Scrappys sells them very cheap. There is a video that shows how that little auto choke works and a quick test to see if it's bad. I can't remember where I saw it though maybe You tube.

Only time it back fires is when I let off a full throttle or let off really fast. Other than that it doesn't back fire at all. Its usually a pop or 2 or something that sounds like a puff of a air a few times. Doesn't sound serious but I will look into it.

Ok, that's not a choke problem. Like I said before I am NO Expert but, I would lean towards a possible air leak Try a new Plug first to see if that helps.

Yeah air leak sounds like something to look into. I do have a new NGK plug in there right now. This thing is pretty much brand new compared to what it was a week ago :disco: just doing everything I know to do to fix it. So far its going well haha

Look around the rubber manifold for any cracks or damage. Just throwing out ideas to solve the backfire. ( another easy cheap fix if thats the problem) It's good to know your up and running!!!

Seems the rubber manifolds crack in the area right beside the clamp (parallel to, and right beside, making it hard to see the crack). To be honest, I would not have believed it, and didn't until I had seen it. I *think* an unsupported carb (by the air box), and over-tightening the clamp, go a long way in cracking the manifold.

Pretty common part to crack with age also.

Yeah. This scooter is just a work on scooter it seems lol. I will look into the intake gasket and see if any leaks are there. I'll do that probably the same time I replace the Valve Cover gasket (leaking oil after adjusting valves). Lovely scooter but hey it runs good at least :censored:
