Oh woe is me the poor start returned,so I resorted back to easy start, things came to head with scoot refusing to start for the trip home from work, stripped the carb again,Nada then I looked at the plug and found that the plug cap,yes the brand new one had come apart (headbang)so I taped it up and limped it home ,I have just swapped it for another new one but I,m going to find a rubberised NGK one to put my mind at rest.

Geoff Because of vibration from a out of true crank last season, especially toward the end of the season, my spark plug would loosen itself and almost fall out after every 100 miles or less. The CHT probe ring that goes around my spark plug would snap because of the vibration every few hundred miles. The list continues, but I’m just trying to say I’ve been in your shoes lol.

Thanks kenho21,it runs sweet as a nut once its started I am back to thinking it,s the crank seals so I will get them swapped out at the weekend just to cross that job off the list and I am running out of stores to buy easy start, they have a two can threshold which if crossed puts you right in the "tosser" bracket.don't google tosser it,s not nice. So we have 10 days of trouble free scooting under our belt, what's changed! The weather has improved and I have started to tilt the scoot vertical before attempting a start,I also cross my fingers and always face the wind, strange I think it was a combo of a poor spark and maybe the float height and the angle on the side stand depriving the pilot jet of fuel. But it,s running so the crossed fingers and wind thing may be the first to go.

The crossed fingers and wind thing have been put back in storage,it,s running well. The speedo gave up again mostly my bad wiring fixed now,I have a packet of "speed up" shims begging to be fitted I feel the need to get the scoot on the 40MPH speed list.

40 be dammed 42 43 is on the cards it,s warm enough to ride naked and tucked in I will pump the tyres up and go find a flat road all easy enough filming and up loading it may be a bigger hurdle, but my. grandson is 4 now so he can do the heavy lifting Geoff

Just for interest here's my GPS to work and back home today speedo read 41 the box says no. so there you go nice dry day no wind to speak of and I didn't,t try to push it on the down hill bits, exactly the same route both ways, this should serve as abase line for tweaking. Geoff

So the beat goes on,scoots running well and I am going to stick with 39.5mph it,s pacey enough from the lights, some musing and bad maths had me trying the 752 belt that I have on hand,it,s a no no lots of clanking from the variator ramp plate,so back to the 738 belt and plod on.

That's still not bad. I did a GPS run on the stock aerox the other day. Short straight it tops out a 45, with 47mph on the speedo. Might get one of two miles more on a longer stretch. Fully unrestricted the typhoon was sometimes struggling to hit 30! that's with a Polini variator too. Euro 4 is a nightmare. It's got a massive cat in the down pipe, and two more on the side. These old Yamaha scooters are hard to beat for performance.

No it,s not bad, this forum keeps me wanting more but my wallet says leave it alone. I still smile at the petrol station when I watch cagers fork out £50 for a tankfull, that's 3 months fuel for me.

After all that fuss and bother with the easy start etc my confidence has returned I can almost not worry about will it won,t it start, the scoot needs some cosmetic attention so I will use grandad for the commute if need be.

Still a lot of life left in it yet.
Mind you, saying that I was thinking of making an offer on the Jog RR up the road. Well till I checked the MOT history. 🤦
