Time for an update, the scoot passed it,s M0T so we are good for another year,2 brand spanking new Michelin power pure tyres have been fitted by myself, and the new naraku exhaust is settled in.I had some tuning issues and have gone back to the dellorto OE carb,it,s running sweet(fingers crossed) so I,m going to sit on my hands till summer and re jet it to try and get a little bit more top speed 40mph at present.

Well that went ok :)but my hands are numb now, used the scoot everyday and apart from washing it cleaning the filter I have resisted "fixing" but the dark side still calls,I have about 8mm of unused travel on the variator and by my dubious grasp of maths and physics a longer belt may be the answer, yes I know I have "ranted" about belt sizes but I may have seen the "light" still not sure though.a 750 belt is on it,s way Geoff, and oh by the way, happy 4th

Mixed feelings today, the scoot sailed through it,s MOT today £25,tax £20,insurance £65 (shared with grandad jog).so I am looking forward to another years scooting, just had a few niggles and minor repair jobs that are expected as the scoot ages.

I will keep this apart from the day to day running stuff,in summer I tried the longer belt 750mm and the scoot was not happy I had to upjet and change the snorkel from stock to a larger Chinese one to get the scoot tuned to the new belt.my cheap and cheerful tacho a temp gauge have expired but my buttometer tells me off the line is better cruise at 35mph is a breeze.still 40mph top end???.I still have 8mm of unused variator to "release" the longer belt is wider than the 738 which may be the root of the problem.but this is my daily ride so I need to keep it running I will try some mods when spring arrives.

Well spring has sprung but I am still resisting the urge to "tune" so I am just going to try cosmetic stuff to while away the hours. Here is the current state.nope that's not working at the moment I will try later, don't,t expect any glossy paint and chrome.
Geoff I am having some puter probs at the moment ,my grans only problems were old age and poverty,1st world probs trouble me.

8 mm is a ton of room You may have 3-5 mph available . Can you take a picture of your variator nut tightened down ? I want to see if you could shim it different . You may have to put a different shim next to the drive boss .
How wide is the new belt compared to the old one ? The way belts are measured varies from manufacture . The way I like to do it is mark the belt and roll it along a table . I found the polini belt was the same rollout length 738 mm compared to the stock zuma even though the polini says 750 mm. The width was of the polini was a little wider .3 mm 16.8 mm to stocks 16.5 mm

Zino, thanks and yes I know there's more to be had from this faithful beast but given the current crisis I,m just going to leave it "as is" for the time being. It ain't broke and some of my "fixes" have been disasters, they say you can,t polish a curd but I will have a go.

Another thing to try to see if heavier weights in variator fix it . I use 6 pieces of aluminum foil cut the same size add extra weight .and run it half with foil half without and see if my top speed goes up . Then go up 6 rollers with foil in and see if I like that better . what else do we have to do while shut in but tuning . but i definetely see your point I hav had too fix way too many things twice .

Spent a nice afternoon polishing the curd, cleaned up the engine with soapy water and a scouring pad for CVT end just the bits you normally see then I set to clean seat bucket and plastics a Tcut clean and liquid polish applied with elbow grease brought back a nice gloss but it,s not going to Barratt Jackson :)I would love to find a way keeping the engine alloy bright apart from polishing every week.any ideas?

Back to work in the am,so air in tyres and a quick run round the block all is well apart from a failing rear shocker but that,s not a huge issue.I normally transition from umpteen layers of clothing to a few months off with just a coat and rain gear in the storage box,I,m going with hi vis coat and my summer gloves.

Well it,s not good news I went for the newspapers this morning and the exhaust is blowing ,I thought it would be a quick fix but its not the "neck" of the exhaust right at the flange has failed,so balls out I have ordered a Silent Pro and a naraku 70 kit (over to the dark side).I will take the engine out and rebuild it, just the top end though, parts should get here by mid week if I am lucky.Grandad jog has been woken up after a 10 week slumber and will be pressed into the commute till I repair the scoot.the naraku traffic didn't,t last long may be I have other issues?it,s not loose but only secured at the head and 1 lower bolt, any pointers would be a help.
Geoff
Much later on I realised the centre stand was fouling the Naraku Traffic causing it to fail early,my bad nothing wrong with the quality of the Naraku product, insert humble pie emoji.

Welcome to the Dark side . We have been waiting for you . I am really curious how a street pipe and that Naraku kit pairs up .

Make sure you do the new exhaust up at the header first, before the side mounting. This ensures there is no stress on it.
You don't need to remove the engine to change the cylinder. I do, just because it's easier though.
That should be a great setup. Welcome to the 40MPH club! 👍

Yes I will be taking the engine out and for once I can rebuild at my own pace, the cylinder kit and exhaust arrived today ,looks to be of good quality and finish but the base gasket impedes the ports I plan to cut a new one from gasket paper which I will have to source.I am waiting for a little end bearing and crankseals to arrive.I have new studs on hand and nuts for them but my old studs are very corroded and the nuts seem to be just mushy.Do I need to find a better quality nut,and if so any ideas on what to look for.I will try to photo my build as I go.
