Of all the things I tinker with and think to fix on my scoot when something seems off and it’s a bit slow, tires are always one of the last for some reason. Always an easy fix so it seems like it will never be the case haha.

Just yesterday I took my vino out for a spin . Top speed was down about 4 mph and it was a handling a little funny front tire was down 7 psi from where it should be . Back tire was down 2 psi. Pumped the tires up and wow 4 Mph back just like that .

Just a quick update before I forget what I did. The tyres needed weekly attention due to tiny rim leaks,in July I put in some puncture repair fluid which has done the trick.one brake light switch was failing due to a dirty earth connection easily sorted.on Friday and Saturday it refused to start until I had kicked it over numerous times,I stripped the carb expecting the pilot jet to be blocked but there was nothing obvious so I gave it a good old clean and swapped out the 80main for an 82 and rebuilt the scoot and all is well again, and it feels a bit nippier with the bigger jet.

Same old daily plod,no problems so I treated the scoot to a new speedo drive £50, it stopped working some years ago and my "fix" stopped working a year ago.from the factory this was a sealed unit with a sealed face that needed to be smashed off ,the rotor removed greased up and spaced just right to revive it,surprisingly the new one from Yamaha now has access to grease it in service part number 5RW H3756 10.the seal is 52mm 40mm 6mm and the rotor needs to sit 8mm below the central hub. Shiny new one

All the Yamaha ones I have had apart are a bit different to that. Even my 2002 slider was different. I wonder why they didn't use the same part on all their scooters?

The scoot picked up a lesser spotted squeak on the front brake disc,so a strip down, clean of the pads and some anti seize grease applied to the back of the pads cleared it up. as you can see the scoot is starting to show its age I think I will wait till spring and revamp the running gear. Geof

My speedo quit on Tuesday,it,s a common fault on the Jog CS50.an easy fix as the terminal block had rotted,so just for the record it,s blue,black,red/yellow with the clip facing you.

I'm sure my jog had a cable speedo. Is yours different? Mind you it was a long time ago.

The kick start return stopped returning so I stripped the assembly down and cleaned it,that did not cure it!! After a bit of swapping and changing I narrowed it down to the small spring. here it is being prised out I can,t see how or why but it,s bent warped in some way that just binds it up,swapped it out from a spare cover, the kick start is restored

The brake squeak has returned!!! I think the master cyl spring is weakening but it,s not available as spare part from Yamaha,? Would this cause the caliper piston to not return or am I barking up the wrong tree.here's a picture of the innards (have to post it later). It,s a grimeca cyl and I find a lot of vespa references in catalogues but none quite nail it,does any one recognise this cyl? my other thought is to put some washers under the spring to "beef" it up,any thoughts Geoff

Oh and I have started to strip the powder coat off a set of old wheels,I have applied paint stripper and it,s coming off,but its tedious work,I am two hours in and £10 in material I need a new heat gun maybe that will be more "fun". Geoff

This is not fun,the rear wheel is almost stripped using stripper and a shave hook to peel the powder coat off maybe a hour or so every evening it,s the one on the left so that's five hours of grief.I picked up a new heat gun which has no effect on the coating Nada zilch flop etc.I did get more stripper and a set of wire wheels for the drill which seems a lot easier just an hour on the front wheel(right in the picture)has shown some good results. so I am £23 into this upgrade and mulling over my options for the end result, powder coat?anodising?or just brushed aluminum with some clear coat?I will try to find a powder coat shop to get a quote but it,s. going to take a while. I think only the Brembo brakes have a rebuild kit. You can buy a new pattern master cylinder for about £20. You can get a build up of dirt behind the dust seal on the caliper. This causes the piston not to return.
