Those recessed seats are shameful on Yams' part. Have you checked piston to valve clearance, with a thought to beveling the recesses and shaving head or cyl to make it up? Or not worth the trouble?

Have you checked piston to valve clearance, with a thought to beveling the recesses and shaving head or cyl to make it up? Or not worth the trouble? I really don't want to get that deep in it. I considered seeing if I could get the head milled to let me work on the combustion chambers a little and maybe for a bump in compression, but I don't think it's worth it to me. The TMAX is always going to be slow for a ~500lb/500cc bike, but the porting cost me time and $10 worth of supplies so I couldn't help myself since the head was sitting right there. If money were no object, I would have picked up a big bore kit. It irritates me a bit to look at it and know that I could bolt on 60cc without much labor from where it sits right now. It's $800 though. Cams are another $800. I forget what tuner costs. Ever since I looked at performance parts the first time, I've always figured that if I want to go much faster, it makes more sense to buy something else. For the few thousand dollars in parts to have 50HP instead of 40HP, I could sell it and get a used R1 with 180-200HP. I was looking at liter bikes and larger for a bit, but reality eventually settled in and I think they'd get me into trouble or a grave and I don't want a big bike that is not comfortable enough that I want to ride it very far. Can't afford both, so the TMAX wins. I know... this from the guy that lives to ride an unreliable little 2T money pit around. That said, the next time it's around any major service interval I may be exploring my options.

You know you're a pro when you start a valve adjustment in April and finish it in August. After figuring out the process the hard way with trial and error and a bent valve, and then learning about the zip tie trick to boot, getting the cams in was exponentially easier this time. I cut the zip ties off and thought, go ahead... skip a tooth. Nope. Went to rotate the engine to make sure everything was seated, knowing I'd be redoing it all in a second. Nope. It went from a tooth skipping, valve bending, depression inducing crap show to a pretty standard procedure.

Hooray now put it’s clothes back on, poor naked maxi-scoot. There's still so much stuff to do. I've got to pull the side of the engine apart to do a clutch. Steering head bearing check, forks, brake stuff, and the rest of the mechanical bits like cooling system, intakes, throttle bodies, etc... is substantial.

I looked over at the exhaust, knowing I need to install it soon. Decided I should at least give it a half-assed coat of 2000 degree Rustoleum flat black. Gotta back the F-150 out to hang the pipe. Tried to rip the passenger side mirror off. It only cracked one piece of plastic AFAICT, but that's gonna be expensive. I really need to find a job in demolition. I can do it in my sleep.

Sounds about how my day went. Worked all day, came home to chase a no brake light issue on our Tahoe for 4 hours. Whoever designed this SUV's electrical system took lessons from the Chinese.

Don’t hit a garage door. Lead times on garage doors right now are up to 16 weeks.

The door is fine. Just left a mark on the trim. Won't scrub out, but a little paint should fix it.
Not as bad as I feared for an OEM mirror, but $171 after tax and shipping. They're on eBay for $100 shipped, but I don't want to risk it being a subpar part. I put an aftermarket door handle on the Nissan early this year and it matched and looked perfect day 1. Now it looks yellowed from an angle. Maybe, just maybe, this will teach me not to come out of the garage like I'm auditioning for Fast & Furious X when I've got 2" of clearance to make it through.

Perfect. Can't get the mirror from Ford. Aside from people right next to the truck paying attention, you prob wouldn't even notice anything wrong with it, so now I gotta decide if I wanna leave it for a bit or see if aftermarket turns out to be a waste of money. Didn't mean to turn this in the the F-150 thread, but it's sorta related thanks to my ineptitude.

It seems like everything is struggling with delays, and delivery times at the moment. I've been waiting a week and a half for rollers from Germany. Still not dispatched.
