Just for the sake of contrast what is 0 to 60 on T2 now? My best is 9.1 on T2. I really wanted to race these scoots, but had trouble getting anyone to ride the TMAX for me. It probably would have been close at least through 1/8 mile based on dragy info. I rarely do 1/4 mile with T2 so I have pretty much no info, but it can at least do a 17.3. Best of 17.1 for the TMAX earlier. T2 went harder off the line, but the TMAX could pull harder once it got going. Would have been fun to see. I even made a camera mount for a friend's helmet and installed it for him when he said he'd do it. Never happened. This is pretty much how it goes for me now that friends and I are all older... "You need help with something? Oh, you can be here/I should be there tomorrow?" "Hey, can you ride my scooter to race me?" "Sure. Sounds fun." ...Years pass. Now you know why my "twin brother Brett" showed up so I could race the Peace Piped 86cc setup vs the MHR 86cc in a vid. That was a ton of effort setting up to make it look somewhat realistic though and loading the TMAX to go to a spot ain't happening so I'd need a 2nd person. Here we go again. T2 may be able to keep up for a bit still... but that would require a WOT launch without a bunch of slip and that sounds like a deathwish. BTW, I know all of this sounds slow when you watch sports cars or crotch rockets dart to 60, but remember that at one point the TMAX was kind of the king of scooters that scoot dorks like me would dream of and it was doing around 10 seconds to 60 stock with me on it. It does seem like the TMAX pulls a little harder at higher RPM since mild port work, but it doesn't hang out at peak HP RPM (based on the manufacturer's info) even now. For more perspective, watch T2 leave Harleys off the line in the Bikefest vid. If you can consistently launch well, it makes a difference when you line up with people that can't.

I swapped the 16g sliders out for 15g sliders yesterday and test rode it today... twice. The first time I closed the dragy app before I left (turned it off). Came home ready to see my results and nothing. Went out and did it all over. Now it looks like RPM stays right around 7000 the whole time I'm accelerating. I haven't reviewed video or averaged anything out yet, so that's just my observation. It felt good and results look pretty good on the dragy. Here are the bests with 16g and the bests with 15g. EDIT : I added T2's bests as well so you can get a good look. | 16g | 15g | T2 | 60ft | 2.24 | 2.12 | 2.27 | 0-30 MPH | 2.38 | 2.13 | 2.63 | 0-40 MPH | 3.47 | 3.22 | 4.24 | 0-50 MPH | 4.88 | 4.64 | 6.41 | 0-60 MPH | 6.86 | 6.59 | 9.12 | 1/8 Mile | 9.66 @ 69.61 | 9.48 @ 69.82 | 10.59 @ 61.95 | 1/4 Mile | 15.51 @ 81.65 | 15.27 @ 82.42 | 17.34 @ 71.03 |
I'll have to average stuff out and look at cruise RPM. It may not be worth the extra performance for the increase in cruise and movement RPM. I have to hit about 4000RPM to get moving or cruise at low speed right now. It feels more punchy from a roll so I think it would be more fun for spirited riding, but it may be a bit much when I'm gonna go to the beach or something and cruise 70-85MPH for long stretches.

This is probably a terrible idea...
I was talking to Ryan about pipes for the TMAX briefly. Saying they're all so expensive that it's not worth it. It was tempting though, seeing Malossi say light rollers are better with an exhaust. So I assume that means they believe it picks up enough power at higher revs for it to matter... and mine already seemed to like higher RPM more after light port work. There weren't any Chinese knockoff options whenever I last looked that I recall. I decided to look again purely out of curiosity with no intention of getting anything. Wound up on eBay looking at $200 exhausts from China. In that process, I found someone selling a Yoshimura R-77 stainless steel exhaust with a carbon fiber silencer brand new with free shipping for $400. That sounded wrong so I checked the seller's other listings and they appear to sell a bunch of single items that look like new old stock or something. 100% positive feedback. Eh. I'll offer $375 and see what happens. They took it.
So I've gone from low RPM movement with a stock exhaust to high RPM to move and now heading for loud exhaust. Blame it on a deal. I would have kept it stock if I had to pay $600-$1,200 for the name brand TMAX pipes. The sensible part of me doesn't expect it to do much. I've seen dynos claiming anywhere from about 1.5 to 5HP and similar amounts of torque and I'd have to bet on the low side. Some claim 10 pounds of weight difference. The dumb part of me figures at least it will feel faster if it's loud and now with the higher RPM to move I can rev back at Harleys at red lights.

Should we pass the hat for a nitrous kit for you for Christmas for the Tmax?

It's hard to beat a 4poke factory engineered exhaust after reading countless sportbike exhaust reviews, yeah it sounds better, but no HP gain...

It's hard to beat a 4poke factory engineered exhaust after reading countless sportbike exhaust reviews, yeah it sounds better, but no HP gain... There are dyno charts showing gains, but lots of them come from exhaust manufacturers. Some TMAX folks have said that exhaust and a variator are the mods to do. Malossi seemed to think that when they wrote the instructions with the vari, but then they also used to make an exhaust for the TMAX. I tried searching more on Majesty USA, but exhaust questions turn into tirades about how all people with loud pipes are selfish idiots with inferiority complexes.

I got the info together from all of my runs and checked cruise RPM. When averaged, 15g weights are 0.2 quicker to any speed or distance +/- less than a tenth. The only problem is, they're revving about 500RPM more for most cruise speeds than 16g. 16g in the MultiVar is revving the same for cruise as 16g in the stock vari. That's pretty impressive, to control cruise the same but provide dramatic improvements in acceleration. That's 250-500 RPM higher than stock cruise RPM, but I've had it setup like that for a long time and including the trip to Philly on I-95 and such without complaint.
As of now, even though I like being quicker, I'm thinking about moving back to the 16g. The exhaust is supposed to be here tomorrow or Friday, so I'm going to wait and try it with 15g and exhaust. Then I'll switch back to 16g and see how that goes. I may also be able to drop RPM by removing shims, but I like the idea of the belt getting in a better takeoff ratio.

Not sure what it’s like off the bike, but it’s loud on the bike. It does make me grin when it sounds like a small fireworks display sometimes coming off of the throttle. With the high engagement, it’s ridiculous just trying to creep up at 4000RPM or so. Feels like it would get me in trouble, but bikes go by my house daily that are super loud. Regardless, I expect to use it with the dB killer. Haven’t tried that yet. Might take it to a friend’s tomorrow so we can chuckle about the loud scooter and I may ride through the town with brick buildings to echo off of all around before trying anything more sensible.

Haven't averaged the times, but I think it may be slower now. lol I'm wondering if it's just not compensating with enough fuel for a more open exhaust, because it stumbles at bit at times. Not trying to say it can't just be slower because stock is good... but something doesn't seem quite right. ScooterTuning sells this o2 controller. If I'm getting it, it sounds like it intercepts o2 data and alters it to make the CDI deliver different amounts of fuel. I tried to look for more info. It doesn't appear to have any custom mapping options. I guess it just tells the CDI that the o2 is reading leaner so it squirts in more fuel. Doesn't say anything about being good for pipes or big bores or stock or whatever like a more traditional tuner may. Thoughts welcome. I don't want to waste $100, but right now I'm pretty curious if it would do anything. I'll try it with the dB killer first anyway, just in case that makes any difference. www.scootertuning.ca/en/t-max-500/540018-tc-unit-02-controller-malossi.htmlPurely out of curiosity (not spending this much money) I looked up a Power Commander. It was $450 and when I looked up available tunes, there's 1. Stock with stock pipe.

That is rubbish. That's normally why you buy a Power Commander, to match a better exhaust.
