Love the "Malossi" holding tool. Will be interested to see how it works when you use it.

I went for a sunrise ride this morning. Love Sunday mornings when everyone else is asleep so the roads are clear. It's really nice, 65-68F while I rode and cloudy but almost no chance of rain according to the weather site. I got caught in pouring rain out of nowhere for about 5 minutes. Just long enough that the whole scooter is nasty. Still good times though. I'll be glad to get my smaller scoots going again, but it is very nice having 2 wheels that do not need constant attention... if you don't want to give it to them anyway. I filled up and only got 41.9MPG this time. There has been more "spirited" riding on this tank though. Not cruising at high speeds, but I've enjoyed some curves and ran it up around max speed a few times. I'm on the bottom of the MPG claims according to what I'm seeing. I should stay in the 45-50MPG range and so far I'm 42-44MPG. I'm sure part of that is because I weigh as much as some couples. I'm not sure that the lack of a windscreen and my overall size sitting taller and wider than average isn't hurting it too. I'm getting used to the wind at speed, but I sure wouldn't mind less wind if I'm on the highway for long. I may also be curious if it goes faster. I thought about cutting down the stock shield, but I have 2 issues with it. First, it's not attractive. I like the solid smoked aftermarket shields much more. Second, if I know I want a 1 piece smoked shield, I can't really tell for sure what one of those will do based on what my chopped version does because of design differences. I decided to just order a Powerbronze Airflow "Double Bubble" smoked shield. Every shield I've read about gets mixed reviews, so I have no clue if it'll be a good choice or not. It was between that, the Malossi Sport, and the Yamaha Sports Shield. All cost $90-$100 shipped, all about the same height, all 1 piece smoked, and all get different reviews. The Yamaha and the Malossi look like they could be the same to me. The Powerbronze seemed to be spoken highly of more often, so I went with it.

The Yamaha sports is my pick

The Yamaha sports is my pick I spent way too much time on google looking at those. That, the Malossi, and another by Ermax; I'm suspicious that they're like Chinese scoots and they're made in one factory and then branded different ways. They look different at different angles, but if you can find similar shots, I can't really see a difference aside from what sticker is on the bottom or which side the sticker is on.

I kinda figured the wind blast at higher speeds would get old pretty quick. The stock windshield along with Suzuki hand grip wind guards have worked for me but I ride kinda slumped forward. Many riders who sit higher buy taller windshields. I bought the Burgman for practical cager replacement and looks take second fiddle to that for me. It's fast enough and quick enough with sliders as my only perf. Mod. Off line performance is poor, though, but a hit clutch is priced hideously and are somewhat of a pain to set up so I live with it. I'm pretty sure the SYM would beat it to 30 mph, at least, since it moves off the line and to 45 - 50 very quickly. 5k on the SYM and I haven't even cracked open the tranny case. Had it to 10.5k (in draft, slightly downhill) for new max rpm on the tach last Thursday in a hurried trip to Texarkana. Bicycle speedo registered 73.5 mph top speed and I've been hearing a bit of belt flop so there is some wear there.

It's fast enough and quick enough with sliders as my only perf. Mod. Sliders seem to get the same great reviews on these big scoots as the small ones. I'll prob be putting sliders in this thing when it's time for service. As far as I can understand it, 18g are the standard replacement. 16g are what many go with to get the revs up for snappier throttle and improved acceleration. I'm planning on 17g, hoping for some gain on acceleration, without cruising taking a hit. They're expensive and it's time consuming to swap them, so I'm crossing my fingers for a good result on the first attempt. Speaking of cruising... I took another ride today, to the beach. It was way too nice to not ride. Ended up around 250 miles today. I took the highway on the way to the beach. I got on a short section of a bypass where the speed limit goes up and cruised 80-85MPH. It did it at about 5750RPM (the tach has 4 segments per 1000RPM). No issues cruising at those speeds, and it's hard to slow down after you've been cruising faster, so I went the rest of the way at that speed. 70 miles to the beach was done in just a few minutes over an hour. Well, 1 issue. The wind sucked. It didn't help that it's windy here today. Quite a few bikes out today. At the top of a parking garage. Heading to one of the DE beaches. On the way home, I stopped to clean my visor and change batteries and the card in the GoPro. While I'm doing that, some guy on a Harley revs it up at me and then takes off at the stop sign near me. I had a bad battery so I changed it twice, changed the memory card, took a drink of water, got my helmet and gloves back on, and then headed out on the same road about 4 minutes later. It's an 8 mile section of the trip; the one with a lot of curves. I caught him by the end of that road. Passed a cop doing 70 just out of a corner in what I think was a 40 or 45MPH section and knew I was done, but he kept going. I ended up riding about 10 miles with him (on then straight roads) before he turned off with a wave. I filled up with gas after the ride to the beach and got 47.3MPG, so apparently I need to roll 80-85MPH to get good mileage. Watch out driver's license! "I'm speeding to save the environment officer."

Looks like you had a good ride today. Glad it is doing so well for you. The bigger scoot seems to be a much better fit for you than the smaller scoots on your longer trips. Other than the wind, how is the overall comfort, seat and legroom?

The bigger scoot seems to be a much better fit for you than the smaller scoots on your longer trips. Other than the wind, how is the overall comfort, seat and legroom? The leg room and seat could be better. I believe both could be improved without the backrest... which isn't really big enough to be a backrest anyway. The problem is, they've got a metal plate under it so you can't just take it off and sit back another 3-4" to gain legroom. I guess it could be taken apart and reupholstered, preferably with padding added. I wouldn't be able to do a job that didn't look cheesy on it and the seat cover kits all include the stock backrest from what I've seen so they'd have holes in the top. Custom seat work is expensive as I understand it and from a quote I got years ago for one of my Tritons (which has a smaller seat). The thing to have sounds like a Corbin seat, but of course being a Corbin seat means it costs nearly $500. I've got a saved search on eBay in case a used one comes up, but I'll be surprised if I get lucky enough to find one at a reasonable price. The motorcycle accessories game seems like a bit of a ripoff to me. With just a seat and a no-research-required rack/top box, it takes roughly $1000. I used to think my car was expensive, but I put a roll cage, 2 comfy race seats, and 5 point harnesses in my Mustang for that much. corbin.com/yamaha/ytmax9.shtml

One thing I have noticed while riding my Reflex, the maxi-scooters seem to have a whole lot more street cred with the biker crowd in general. I am a waver. I wave at every bike. I get a lot more wavebacks on the reflex then I ever did on the Aero. I think that is probably due to the size and the look of the bike. The Aero is small for a 125cc and definitely looks classic scooter. The Reflex it large for a 250cc and looks more like a sportbike from the front. It seems funny to me to judge how much of a 'biker' you are because of what you happen to be sitting on.

It seems funny to me to judge how much of a 'biker' you are because of what you happen to be sitting on. This has been true for me as well. I was wishing every biker would stop waving at me by the end of the ride yesterday. I have a lot wave at me on T2, but it's hard to tell what it is from the front. Less on the TaoTao. I used to get annoyed by it, but I don't care anymore. It probably doesn't help that other people on scooters here don't usually wave. Most of them won't wave back at me. Meep meep seems to be the 50cc scooter greeting here, if you get anything. I did have some guy in a crosswalk point at the TMAX and say "That's a sick ass scooter" yesterday. I get people staring at T2 or commenting about it way more though. No one knows WTH that thing is, myself included. lol At the end of the day, I have my scoots because I enjoy them and not for anyone else. If I make appearance mods, it's because I like looking at them. If I make one faster, it's because I enjoy the speed or the process. That means they're a win, regardless of popular opinion.

Are you using ear plugs for highway riding?? You won't notice the buffeting as much...

Are you using ear plugs for highway riding?? You won't notice the buffeting as much... I've got some.... but I keep forgetting them. As soon as I got on the highway, I remembered them. The noise sucks, but it's the constant moving my head around that bugs me the most. I think a lot of it was the wind (atmospheric, not speed) yesterday though. I was leaning into it and gusts were pushing me in the lane at times.
