I picked up a honda spree today. I traded it for that 150 I've been complaining about since January. Why, do you ask, would I trade a 150 for a 40 year old scoot that can be outrun by grandma an a rascal? 1. Space The onefiddy took up way too much real estate 2. 2 stroke 3. Honda Some cons I've noticed: First off its a spree, so it's got one gear The turn signals are MIA so I have to address that The plastics are gnarly but that's typical Nevertheless this will be a fun project Now then let's begin.. Before The guy was sad to let it go but was excited to get the 150. He also threw in the skull and ammo box for free.. um thanks. Stay tuned for updates plus sports and weather on channel spree

I'm digging the red and black 2 tone, you should stick with that theme.

Today I got a look at the engine number , looked it up and I'm still not sure what year it is. Im guessing 86 because of the kick start. speaking of which, when the guy on CL said "it just needs a kickstart gear" I should have ran away right there. You would think I would have learned by now not to get scooters with hard to find parts...but noooooo. the battery is shot for sure. I haven't gotten to go look for another but I hear they are much cheaper on line than any brick and mortar. I hooked up a known good battery and mashed the button and the starter relay began to just buzz. Bad relay? I guess.

Could be a bad relay. I think my have a Honda starter relay I'll give you, or you can wire in a normal automotive relay.
The best thing to do with a spree motor is swap it. Dio motor, aero motor, even a minarelli motor. Just swap it! It'll get faster AND easier to work on haha.

I can't find any dio's or aeros around here. Lots of ch80's (for more than I want to pay) and helix's but nothing small.
a guy on CL has a ct90 for sale. maybe I can trade a few things for it. Thats what I really want...some old school Honda love. not this 80's stuff.
But ill take you up on that relay. PM me

You only need front brakes with an 89lb scooter haha!

I looked at the relay and it looks ok. Though I haven't tested it yet. I cleaned the contacts just in case.
Now about the brake cable, can I just use a bicycle cable? Considering a bicycle can probably go faster than a spree it ought to work

Honestly not sure if a bike cable will be strong enough to hold for more than on stand testing. I could be dead wrong tho. ..

I have a variated AF05E. Needs a top end. Also have the correct motor mount needed to swap (brand new), needs modified still. Kind of want to hop up my other Spree's stock engine, but haven't found the rare parts I need. If I can't find them, I'll do the swap to the variated engine instead. I wanna keep the original mainly because it IS the original engine. My Sprees are for show and collecting, not for much actual road use. My son uses his only on a private open lot, and only drives it maybe 10-15mph even though it has the potential to do over 50. In the real world, the other scooters and the motorcycle make for a better ride, but hey, gotta ride it every once in a while... better then letting it sit under a tarp collecting dust. I'm a bit sentimental about the Spree. I don't think they should be molested and changed, just fixed up and restored. My advise, is however you modify it, keep those original pieces in the best shape possible. Every single part I have ever removed from my son's, is sitting in a box on the shelf sealed in bags. I have extras of alot of things. If you want a brake cable, TAZ sells them on eBay. stores.ebay.com/alluneed-scooter-parts

I got a new battery today, it's still on the charger. My front turn signals came in too. I stripped all the plastics off to clean and paint them. It looks pretty good as a skelly. Much better than a naked gy6. The center stand is on order. Next paycheck I'll order new tires and a belt and a new brake cable. So I'm making progress albeit slowly
I was at a local motorcycle shop that deals in genuine scooters and royal Enfield motorcycles and told him about my spree. He said "a spree will suprise you" So that's nice.
So far it's just been "suprise! Parts are missing"
