Well let’s see... I seem to have this set of new virgin cases that need to be violated but I need to find a plan for them. I just got back from a trip to Virginia so I’m rested, work bench is clean(ish) and I don’t have any other projects going on right now so maybe it’s time to build. This motor probably won’t be installed until next season but that could change. I’m happy with what I’m running now. I’m limiting my carb to a 21mm Dell because I like the fuel economy not the 30-40 miles per tank with a PWK. I think I could make it work and some of the cylinders say 19/21 is needed not 28mm plus. CVT I’ll either swap over or install similar components Polini hi speed, straight groove TD and HiT clutch. I don’t really see the need for a OR, I had one on here before and I’ve managed to get really similar results without it. The OR just gets the rpms up higher, quicker. Ignition if I need to swap to a MVT that’s fine but if I could keep the stock that would be nice. I have a few pipes I could choose from a C21/22 I’m building now, C28/30 I was running on my last 77cc, my Polini for race 4 I’m running now and a few others that aren’t worth mentioning or I could make something else. I’ve had my eye on the Metrakit pro race for a while but scootertuning.ca said it’s a short lived kit and runs at 13,500+ so that may be out. The Athena Evo and Polini Evo look to be something I may consider or the 80cc Athena mini stroker 47.6/43. I also still have a 77cc I could throw on there. I’ll probably go LC and either have the radiator mounted horizontal in the belly pan if I can find one to fit or the radiator mounted under the seat towards the rear as Corrosion did previously. So this is kind of a toy for now and I’m open to opinions on different choices. In the mean time I’ll work on improving flow in the cases. www.scootertuning.ca/en/cylinders-high-end-70cc/17034-cylinder-kit-polini-evolution-iii-12mm.htmlwww.scootertuning.ca/en/cylinders-racing-70cc/17085-cylinder-kit-athena-evolution-modular-70cc-12mm.htmlwww.scootertuning.ca/en/cylinders-sport-70cc-aluminium/17091-cylinder-kit-athena-80cc-12mm.html

Is the 77cc a l/c Malossi big bore? Like the one that Spaz sold me? Because if it is... that cylinder is a 🚀. Really fun. 👍 But it sounds like you know that already. If it's not the Malossi l/c my votes for the 43mm stroker Athena 80cc.

It’s a Airsal extreme 77, I had the same MHR 77 as you, they are both similar. I’ve read all the hype of the Athena 80cc but haven’t seen anyone here with it. It’s priced right...

I really like the athena 80cc. Its probably the best daily driver cylinder, lots and lots of torque, no trough the roof rpms and a fairly square engine which limits piston and liner wear.
A 21mm and yasuni c16'ish pipe will probably make it a really nice setup. Probably not as fast as your 77 airsal, more like a torqey'er athena evo. You could do a mild porting job if needed.

I’m thinking more that the Athena 80 might be what I’m after. The 77’s are fun but the rpm’s suck when your buried deep in neighborhoods and everyone thinks an angry chainsaw is after them. I’m hesitant to chop up the front panels to mount a radiator so I’m hoping I can find something I can mount low so I can go LC like all the cool kids 😎. If not then either under the seat with a fan pulling air through or just stick to AC

The Polini 94cc has come way down in price. I don’t think it’s a super screamer and I’ve heard you can put a ton of miles on them. Might be something to have a look at.

I agree the cylinder is reasonable until you look at the $440 crank to go with it. It uses a 13mm pin so I don’t think there are many other options. Replacement piston is also $150. I’m not sure my pockets are deep enough for that one.

For a driver my vote would be the 80cc Athena in air or liquid cooled. Where did you come up with the Virgin yamaha cases?

I picked them up from partzilla. The cases new were cheaper them the greasy, crusty cases on eBay at the time.
I’ve got a kind of noob question. I’ve never run a AC aluminum bore only the LC bores. Would you be looking for the same max CHT as a cast bore? Danger of seizing over 350*

Not sure on temp but the ac aluminum bore will hole a piston before it soft seizes

The only thing I don’t like about the Athena 80cc is the crank. It’s pretty much only good for that cylinder is it not?
