My Malossi MHR Replica cylinder uses chrome rings. Not sure what size they are though. And I don't have any spare laying around at the moment. Never mind, further research shows that they are 1.5mm thick so a no go for your build. The Malossi product number is 357259 More research done, the Stage6 MK1 piston ring might be the winner here. www.scooter-attack.com/piston-ring-stage6-d-47-6x1mm-chrome-s6-etkr-39.html

Now we’re getting somewhere... Either the ignition, Malossi OR, or the Stage6 clutch made this want to wheelie under throttle. The CVT still needs some fine tuning this was just a quick guess and I couldn’t resist. Why does a little scooter feel more disturbing then my big bike?

That sounds sweet I am betting the wheelies are from the overrange ,you have got a even better first gear then you had with top performance rear end .

I’m not convinced... It’s slightly larger OD I’d think it has more to do with the variator angles, it gets the rpm up quick. Really this clutch is grabbing good and I can get it to hook at the rpm I want it at, plus less flywheel mass could also help. I think it’s all working together.

Maiden voyage was this afternoon. Moves out quick and pulls real nice to 55ish then seems to loose steam. Pulled the cover to find I’m missing a few MM of travel and the belt is loose. I need to pull some shims back out of the variator to get some more travel. It’s also reving to 12,400 with 4.5 grams and a Malossi yellow spring, I can back off at part throttle and be around 10K. Peak is a little above where I think it should be. The plug for the few mile drive has color and isn’t wet so it should be pretty close that I can focus on CVT work. This scoot is always evolving and I like where it’s going. It’s the quickest it’s been and a blast. Besides my Elite I’ve never had a scoot that would wheelie at will as easily as this does. Now to practice that...

Now to practice that... You're screamin! Those are some high revs. Glad it's coming together so well for you. Since you won the chicken dinner on PFS with the Malossi over range, I think I'm going to go with the Polini over range when it's time for me. Be interesting to compare. I believe we're running the same gears and CC at least. Although, I know some other major differences like LC and stuff exist, still probably at least get a rough idea.

I’ll say it again... I’ve had good success in the past with the Polini cast stuff. Actually the Polini line in general is good stuff. I don’t recall anyone using their overrange. If I didn’t get this one I was going to go that route. If rings end up being short lived with this cylinder then I’ll be going for their Evo cylinder. Revs are up but I’ve had stuff in the past that would run higher. MHR77 is in the 13-14K range. There’s nothing abnormal when it’s running up there besides missing peak power. The crank and ignition can take it.

Jack from HPLogic in Florida used a complete Polini overrange CVT setup on his Aerox including clutch and clutch bell. Seems to do pretty well. It's just more expensive than Malossi because you have to buy the parts all separate since Polini doesn't offer sets.

Scooter Tuning has a set that seems to include everything the Malossi kit includes, unless I'm missing something. I already have a Polini clutch and bell, so I figure it should all jive well. From what I've heard and seen from other's experience, Malossi is great 95% of the time, but QC seems to be lacking and causing some people issues once in a while. Polini seems to be a little better on average and for about the same money, maybe a little more. I'm almost always willing to pay more to have it right the first time or for a little added peace of mind. All that being said, I own parts from both and many other manufacturers and have never had any real problems that come to mind.

That Polini set comes with the iron TD. Jack used the black aluminum TD on his setup. Super expensive though.

Scooter Tuning sells the aluminum set as well and I believe it’s a few bucks cheaper. They recently adjusted the price. I assumed the iron set would be a little more durable, so was going to go with that. The aluminum one has the black ceramic coating and looks pretty sweet though! Tempting.

Yeah, if i had to choose i'd go with iron aswell. Even though visually the aluminum looks sweet but once installed you won't see it unless you got one of those super cut out cvt covers.
Just be aware that the malossi kit you linked comes with the red aluminum TD. There is the iron version too which should be cheaper

As far as you know, is the only advantage of the aluminum version the fact that it’s a little lighter?
