So you thought I gave up ? LOL Well I did..... For the holidays... Now that we are into the new year I figured I'd revisit this project. (I needed a break from this) Things Iv done since previous updates. I when through ALL of the electrical system that's ignition related. Ohmed out every wire(checked for breaks/bad connections), checked all crimped connection and connectors. Checked the stator and coil, verified it with service specs. Also compared them to a new/unused stator & coil and there were close to each other and in spec's. I even went back in time and picked up one of these. I figured it was better for finding continuity/breaks in the wiring, vs using a digital meter. I also added decent gauge ground wire from the engine case to the frame. I really think there is electrical noise coming from somewhere that's causing the ignition to cut out @ high rpms. Still working on a exhaust venting solution so I can fire it off in the basement with out smoking myself out of the house.

Winter time garage venting I’ll just use an old garden hose or some clear pvc tuning and run that out the door.

What about using a old vacuum?

OMG! The old Simpson 260, what a workhorse that was. Makes my eyes leak thinking about the good old days. I have had several over the years, wonder where mine got to?

ryan_ott Lucass2T I picked up some parts last year. 4" duct fan, dryer vent and 20ft of double wall flex hose. I just need to get it set up.

Yeah, I had to resurrect this one. They left the batteries in it an they both leaked(9v & D cell). What a mess. I had to make up new battery contacts seeing the old ones were so brittle and broke as soon as I touched them. The fuses had to replaced as well.(corroded)

Well I have some good news. The rev limiting issued has been solved. It seem the stock CDI that's been modded to be derestricted(rev limiter removed) has gone back to being restricted.(while the 2 green wires are still connected) I took the CDI appart(destroyed the phenolic housing) and check the continuity from the plugs to the solder joints and that was all good. It was actually clean compared to the last one that I took apart that had a lot of corrosion on the traces around the edges. Unfortunately I still have to tear the engine apart and replace the crankshaft. I picked up a PG race crankshaft that's stuffed. I really wish I had this crankshaft when I started this build. A few of you will know what this crankshaft's secret is. Maybe my next built.

Mini Stroker.
Be warned, they use a 16mm pin on those CMR vs the standard 18mm pin.. Check my S6 build. I mod one of those to an 18mm pin so it uses the bigger bearing.

Well I was hesitant on tearing this engine back apart. I listened to countless youtube videos with people with 2 stroke dirt bikes with crankshaft/rod/bearing issues. In most videos the noise is very noticeable at idle and throughout the rpm range. Mine does not make noise at idle, and only at certain rpm ranges and on accelerating revs. Who knows. So I went ahead and tore the engine apart, I f-ing hate draining the coolant, I always make a mess. Visually could not find anything wrong. Rod big end bearing felt tight, side to side felt good, but it doesn't rule out the needles bearing could of been damages when the head leaked coolant. I will bring to a friends, get int in a lathe on centers and inspect it a little closer. Go the bearing chilling in the freezer, cleaned up the case halves and now its just a waiting game. So with a new crankshaft, crankshaft bearings, crank seals and wrist pin bearing, if there were any noises coming from there hopefully they will be cone.

I found the source of the noise. The skirt of the piston was hitting the engine case. When I did the fitment I based it on the dimensions differences from the Polini piston and the new Airsal piston(center of pin to the bottom of skirt) I did not factor in the differnce piston diameters. Polini 47mm/Airsal 47.54mm Think I am just going to chamfer the corners of the skirt. Lucky its nothing major. I should of split the cases with fitting this new cylinder, but there was nothing wrong with the bottom end when I did this swap(ya know, if it ain't broke......)

Good catch, glad it was not your crank after all. I would trim the skirt myself.

Those 2 oiling holes in the piston pin area, are they stock, or did you put them there.

I’ve been adding those oiling holes for awhile and I feel it’s beneficial. Somewhere I’ve posted pictures with the difference between a stock pin and one with oiling holes and you can see the difference.
Some work with a dremel and you’ll have plenty of clearance. Good catch.

Although I had my dremel out, I resorted to the old school hand file and just knocked the corners off the skirt.
