Ok thanks guys-the fuse is definetely blown (im guessing maybe from using the toggle switch rather than the original, so ill check the connectors and try to pick up a replacement switch assembly), Ill pick a new one up tomorrow. It looks like it is a F10A fuse. I had 2 questions though-First, are these fuses reliable, and if not is it possible to change it to the paddle style fuses like in cars? And second, are there any precautions (disconnecting battery) I need to take before installing the new fuse?
Thanks again.

I use 15 amp fuses. They are reliable. No need to d/c battery. If it were me I would cut that switch off and tape the wires up. It's friggin' mickey mouse and you can use hand signals til you get a new one.

well funny you ask that - Mine looked like this when i bought my scooter IMAG0267 by theo547, on Flickr So even though i looked at it I never knew it was blown tell i got frustrated and started ripping things apart. There is no reason you cannot switch it out for a different style of fuse - obviously as long as its the same resistance. If i were an instructor teaching you how to do this the proper way i would tell you to disconnect the battery before you touched anything electrical on the scooter, but im not Just pop a new one in! Another thought - if you can find an owners Manual and find out what fuse is supposed to go in there.. that 10 is most likely the correct size, but you bought it used and (pardon my french) you never know what the last @$$ clown did to it before you got it. On that thought also - Dont just check all your fluids - Replace them!

I suppose a plastic blade connected fuse would be better as far as durability. Easy retrofit.
I replace the fuse with the key off...

Ok, so I took a look at the connectors, it looks like the 2 in the product image match the 2 on mine, but mine also has a third connector coming from the brake...see below: 2 connectors that appear the same: 1 additional connector coming from the brake lever:

Please replace the radio shack switch with the correct switch. Most likely what happened is that when you replaced the switch you either replaced it with the wrong style switch, See there are SPST (single Pole Sing Throw) SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) switches and while the physical appearance of the SPST and the SPDT look very much the same the work very different. Your turn signal uses a DPDT switch to separate the two circuits for the left and right signal. The other thing that could of happened if you did get the correct switch is that you wired it incorrectly and instead of the common wire going to the center lead of the switch you have it reversed and this would cause you to blow the fuse everytime. The other plug you are showing goes to the brake lever switch and the scooter will not start up via electric start unless you pull in on the brake lever, if this wire is not connected then it would be the same as if you tried to start the scoot without pulling in on the brake lever. Listen to what FOX is trying to tell you and replace the switch with the correct piece. The switch you are trying to use does not have a high enough current rating and if you continue to use it, it will eventually burn out and short out leaving you stranded.

Right, Im trying to replace it with the correct one, the problem is the only one im finding (the one that the other members linked to) does not appear to have the same connectors. Mine has 3 connectors-a 6 wire, and 2 2-wires. Does anyone have a suggestion of where to find the correct switch?

www.partsforchinesescooters.com/2/Left_Hand_Brake_Handle_Module_Venus_Scooter_GMI_101-1779.htmlI think they're showing 2 of 3 connectors. The 2 wire they show in the pic is two blue wires, which should be the headlight. The larger connector covers every other function besides the brake light/starter circuit. That should be the third 2 wire connector that I think you just can't see there. I would contact that place and see if I'm correct on that. If so, that should be it.

Thanks Brent, I did already email them, Im waiting to hear back-I am worried though, because none of the connectors on mine are 3 wire, and in the description on theirs, they say one of them is a 3 wire connector...

I never even noticed the description. Looked at everything but the words right in front of me. I think you found the right one with your link. The price really isn't bad. I don't think you'll do much better unless you can catch one on ebay.

I have a old scooter at home I have been keeping around for parts. Let me look and see if it has what you need. If it does I will give you the part and you will just have to pay for shipping. The type of scooter I have at home is a quingqi has the retro body style. I am at work right now and will be home around 6:00 PM EST.
