That cam belt is critical, even if it's a non-interference engine, if it snaps or slips your dead in the water.

In KC if your timing belt breaks you just 'Flintstone' it home.

Hopefully the timing belt won't break but if it does the car has served it's purpose. I have saved it from the scrapyard once not willing to spend to much on it when other people use it more than me. 😊

KC has so much salt that the floorboards are always gone so it is easy to 'Flintstone'. Just put your feet down and Yabba Dabba doo!

Iowa is all about that salt, I lost leaf springs to it, floorboards and even an oil pan...

We have problems to with salt on the roads over here, it seems to be less common on the body of modern cars 2000's on as the undersides and part way up go through some chemical processes to stop that happening so much like it use to on my old motors of the 70's and 80's. The sumps rotting seems to me due to modern stuff not leaking oil so they got no rust protection on the sump 😊

They keep getting better at corrosion control, but results -vary.

I remember in my younger years we would coat the underside of vehicles with used motor oil to stop/prevent salt issues. But thats a nono these days.

The trouble with salt is that once the chassis is exposed to salt it can NOT be removed or protected against. Any coatings will just seal it in to cause more corrosion. When they pull artifacts out of the sea they have to submerge them in fresh water baths for years to clean out the salt. Salt even gets on the vehicles while on the transport trucks. Vehicles near the sea get the salt air. Even the vehicles that start life in the southwest can be exposed to salt during transport.
I wonder how the new aluminum Ford trucks are going to last over the years. Aluminum and salt don't play together nice.
