It’s colder out where I live. So my scooter is harder to start and takes much longer to accelerate. How do I adjust the air/fuel mixture ratio?

Youll likely have to unseal or replace your stock carb. Idle mixture is pretty simple to adjust with a small screw on the side. Your main jet (mixture for most everything else) is slightly more involved but not much, youll adjust that by swapping out main jets of different sizes. The larger thr number stamped on the jet the richer it will be. For example, my taotao takes an m4 size jet. From the factory it came with a #73 i settled on a #76 in 70 degree weather. It rides fine for me in 50 degree weather. But your experience may be different. This is an excellent write up with lots of other relative links at the bottom of the page. www.49ccscoot.com/faq/carbtune.htmlIf you search 90GTVert on youtube he has some really excellent videos on unsealing his carb and tuning his taotao in general.

Frank I've read you suggesting this main jet thing before. Where does it fit, how does it mount? Vito doesn't seem to show any "how to " on this device. Greg

They send out an instruction sheet with the unit. Basically a hole needs to be drilled in the airhorn (intake side) of the carb or in the tube connecting to the air filter. The jet is threaded 1/4-28TPI so you can drill and tap a hole or you can just glue it into place. The jet is connected to the fuel bowl either from the drain or with a barb that is supplied into a tapped hole.
I drilled and tapped a hole in my carb for the jet and connected the tubing to the fuel bowl drain valve. It may be better to drill and tap the carb bowl for the barb fitting to avoid sediment and water that travels to the bottom of the carb bowl. I haven't had any trouble with the jet though. I just open it about 1/4 turn in winter.
Super glue is fuel proof.

I have had it in use for over a year, -no problems. It is above the fuel level so fuel will not flow unless there is airflow over the tip. It works and meters just like regular jets. The more airflow there is the more fuel is pushed through by the air pressure above the gas in the fuel bowl.

Thanks for the reply, you make it sound fairly easy to do. I had not imagined an additional jet and had thought this replaced the original main and couldn't imagine how it could be adjusted.

Finding a spot to drill in the carb airhorn casting is the hardest part of the job. Many people seem to mount them in the tubing from the air filter. That wasn't an option for me since I use a pod air filter. Relocating carb linkage brackets may be required. You can see where I mounted it in my modifications thread: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/7806The instructions call for mounting it between the 10:00 to 2:00 positions but mine is mounted at about 3:00. I heavily modified my carb, but then I grew up working on carbs.
