So who has a Dellorto 30 or a Keihin 33 PWK for me on the cheap?
I may even use a Mikuni TMX 30 or 33 if I could find one! *Shock*
I have this consistent problem with my home brew carburetors I cannot shake. Bike will lean out at Constant part throttle, transitioning between pilot and main and if I chop throttle the revs will stay up high like its starving, If i blip throttle on to main a few times it settles down. I have had a 55/140 in it and it would barely idle and would burble and break up on the main and the skinniest needle with the longest taper I had in it (oddly enough its a OKO needle, I bought the polini kit and it was useless.. all the needles are so close to the same) and it would still do it. I used 2 different castings to see if it was the problem (I bored another carb even bigger). I drilled out the idle circuit in one of the carbs and left one stock. I checked the jet well for air leaks. I then realized its running the float bowl dry. So I drilled out the passages in the casting for more fuel and opened up the orifice the needle goes in. It still seems to do it even with fuel pissing out the overflow at idle.. I think I just need a bigger carb. I have to admit defeat.
Other than that it's a monster for sure when I get a moment of power out of it.
Going to the cycle salvage to dig thru old carbs tomorrow after work.

I can still run that Dell on a different Malossi intake rubber(36mm) so I don't need to redesign my whole intake.
Keihin's I definintely have to redo all that stuff as they have a 45mm OD engine side.

I dont think carb bore diameter would cause that condition, sounds like an air leak within the engine(crank seal, base gasket,etc..)

I checked for leaks. I didn't find any.
If I give it gobs of throttle and it's up more just on the main, it returns to idle normally.

Well you should have a pretty nice 28mm dellorto VHST coming in the mail. That I’m sure you can just borrow from your next build. Actually very well made carb.

Unfortunately I am still trying to arrange a method to get it here cost effectively.

Unfortunately I am still trying to arrange a method to get it here cost effectively. Wtfudge. Free engine w/o free shipping. Cold piece right there.

Get on the dyno. Tell you what. Pm me I'll meet you there. Always nice to meet another Maniac. I literally live 20mins away. Brandon and Carter are some pretty cool guys.

Got it. After my last post and 190Mech saying I had an air leak I went into a spiral of checking everything I had checked before. You know the sort of thing when a smart fella says something could be wrong so you have to check again regardless. I busted out the intake plugs and went at it again. Zero leaks, None whatsoever. I actually pushed it higher than you should on a leakdown and found I could get some bubbles out of my 3d printed intake so I fired off a new one. Same. If I held it up on the pilot it would lean out on transition and chopping throttle would keep the revs high. I pulled the needle and made a custom 2 taper jobbie and even still I could get it to do it. but it seemed like now it would be slightly below transition... Completely gobsmacked I plopped my face in front of the carb and started watching and listening. playing around watching the main spray and when it would rev up.. just for fun I pushed on the slide as it was leaning out and the revs instantly dropped... but I wasn't pushing it down, I was pushing it IN. So these OKO's the slide fitment is sub par to begin with, and if you bore out to almost the width of the slide, well unmetered air can go around the slide and lean it out. So it was a air leak.. just not where anyone would suspect. So i'm now just trying to decide either the Dellorto VHSH or PHBH in 30. I'm really trying to get this up and running for the rally in May but i'm really running out of time. I also need a DioZX throttle pipe.. I have this hacked up Kymco one and I got the throttle to hang wide open today.. Scary!
