Tightened the seat post on my mom's power assist fatty then hit some dirt. You can cruise on pavement at about 18mph, pretty fun.

Rebuilt a peugeot sv motor. A nice new top performances crank, malossi multivar and a belt that could be a tad longer. Next time i'll order an overrange belt.

Started up the lawnmower today for the first time this season. There were a few glitches... Worked on my main power panel. I am planning on installing some more surge suppression devices. Gas tube arresters seem to be impossible to find nowadays, so I am recycling some from my old meter can.

Unable to get the S inspected on account of misfire codes. It's not an uncommon thing for these cars and could be time-consuming considering that there are a half dozen things that might be checked. I procrastinated this last year - too much scooter tinkering and riding - but it really needs to be fixed now. Easy thing to check is the spark plug coil clips. These tend to get brittle with all the heat cycles, but man, the guts of these fell apart like broken ash when removing the wire connectors. I had no idea they were that bad. Smashed up clips on the left, new ones on the right. Something that might be useful for the scoot/motorcycle folks (really, on a scooter forum? ) is Cycle Terminal. It might be as close as you can get to the OEM stuff that Honda and other Japanese manufacturers use. While I'm here, pulled the plugs and to check general engine health. These actually look the best I have ever seen them on this car. Gapped pretty narrow at .030, but hey, seems to be the right spot. Installed the new clips. Nice when there's a gratifying "snap" on everything. I'll have to forgo the scoot for a bit to put some miles on the car to see if any of the codes come back. Fingers crossed!

CE light came on. Dammit, shot in the dark and a miss. Ah well, the connectors were shot so it's a good feeling to have fresh parts on that. Next... valve adjustment. This is really impeding on some seriously nice scoot riding, but here goes. The pretty lady in a red dress, all buttons have been unsnapped And here are the goods. Not like anyone hasn't seen the topside of an engine before, more like I am an inspiring wannabe and these sort of shots get my juices flowing. TDC cylinder 1 intake min is .008". I managed to fit .006", nothing greater. This could be the crux of the issue. Strong suspicion all the valves are running tight. It's getting late now, I will have to spend the day tomorrow adjusting all 16 valves, instead of, well, riding in what's supposed to be one of the most gorgeous days of the year. Ff---.

^ and yes, i know enough to align TDC for each cylinder. The pic above is as it looked after the valve cover came off. After setting cylinder 1 TDC, intakes were very tight.

All buttoned back up. The exhaust valves were way off. All the intakes were on the bottom end of ok. Not so much gurgling when letting off the throttle now. So yet again, wait another 40-50 miles n see if the CE light comes on again. 20 miles so far so good. Fun day riding the roadie and later on the scoot. Man this car rides like it's on rails, but I always prefer two wheels!

Minnesota came up in a conversation at work yesterday... you are on the windward side of the Great Lakes, so not as much snow as here, but don't you need to run special anti-freeze in your vehicles to withstand the regular -20F ? Burrrr, dude!

Minnesota came up in a conversation at work yesterday... you are on the windward side of the Great Lakes, so not as much snow as here, but don't you need to run special anti-freeze in your vehicles to withstand the regular -20F ? Burrrr, dude! we just mix our antifreeze at 50/50, it'll start and run in temps down to -40F. Considering 50% of cars probably won't start when it gets that cold. Daily life begins shutting down at -30F. On the topic of the great lakes (superior mostly) - they actually shelter morthern and eastern wisconsin from the cold (average temps are roughly 5 degrees warmer). In turn though, they get the "lake effect snow" which is the blowoff from the lakes that freezes midair and coats the land. Minnesota gets our cold weather from the great canadian granite shelf north of MN and nodak (nort dakota). We gauge most of our forecast where i'm at by watching whats coming from fargo and grand forks and moving southeast to me. Look for a town called Tower MN on our state map, thats the coldest place in the 48 states - and has an average colder temperature than most of alaska during the winter. I could share for hours on this lol
