Cardboard! I’ve got dedicated sheets for my truck. After your story I guess mine isn’t too bad even though I need 4 wrenches, 2 sockets, a special filter wrench for the canister filter that should be outlawed but at least I can fit a bucket under the drain. If it didn’t have a steel skid plate it wouldn’t be so bad.

I changed my tyres for new ones today. The mechanic did not have time so I used there stuff and he showed me how to use the new wheel balance machine. I came away from doing that hurting and achey. I dont think I would be moving if it was having to use trolly jack etc like when I was younger and body ok

Removed electric choke on boss's 86 Silverado 4 WD with the water weak 305, (and single barrel carb) and added a cable to make it a manual choke. Still a major PITA to start cold. Can't wait to finish the new engine for it. Old school 350 4bolt with a real 750cfm twenty over with polished camel hump heads. Should vebgood for 350-400 hp with lots of torque. Much better than the 180(ish, new) original motor. This thing has been driven hard andnput up wet. Has a hydraulic lift bed, still a full pick up bed, and a major winch. Nice truck, but the boss refuses to pay out $300 for an exhaust so it dumps out directly under the firewall, no pipes after the collectors....

More work on the old 'Rado today. Tan twin lead from the fuse block to the new plate lamps in the back bumper, re-ran the tail light run, replaced the headlights, all four, traced more wires, welded some ¼ steel plate to the bed so it doesn't flex as much when the cylinder raises it, the bed has been loaded so much and dumped with such weight that its warped and all the support was broken. Tomorrow I think I'm going to unspool the winch, pack the gears and respool. Then change to oil in the transfer and both hogs, much fun....

Well, by seven tomorrow morning I will be draining the engine and drive oil from a Kubota RTV 900 with the diesel engine. Then put the snow blade on it. Supposedly it can't run the dump bed AND the blade at the same time, but I think I can make it. Just need to split the lines. Not a big deal, in theory. Then its time for all universal joints on it to be replaced, the axles need to be repacked, and the rest of the zerks are almost guaranteed to be caked full of mud.
Then on to the 60's model MF 135 gas special, the Perkins 4cyl needs some love. And it needs to be winterized. Tires filled with fluid, radiator and system flushed and filled, battery replaced and an extra battery added with a cut off. Should be a good day.

I have been spending way too much money at the auto shop lately. Tires, alignment and oil change on one daughters car, and she still needs front brakes and rotors, so I will be doing those repairs myself. Also I just finished replacing a drivers window regulator on it this evening.
My other daughters car just got front struts, sway bar, ball joints, rack bushings and alignment at the shop, cost was nearly 2K. They wanted another $300 for rear shocks, I said no. I put the rear shocks on myself yesterday evening for $90 which is what the shocks costed me. It still needs a CV axle on one side due to a torn boot, they quoted me $235 for the repair, I said no. Ordered the cv axle myself for $65. I think I can change it myself. To top it off I found out today that the brake booster is also bad/leaking, they quoted me around $600 to replace the booster. I can get a booster for $155. Does anyone know how hard are they to change? 1999 infinity QX4

I am not sure about the QX4, but I usually pick up a brake booster and master cylinder combo so I don't have to mess with the push rod spacing. It usually is not much of a chore to change out the whole unit and bleed the brakes.

It usually is not much of a chore to change out the whole unit and bleed the brakes. They dont have the combo option, just separate parts. I found a youtuber that shows how to separate the master cyl from the booster without disconnecting the brake lines from the master cylinder, I think I will try that route. I dont know about the push rod spacing, gonna try to just carefully measure it. Never done a booster before.

Today my buddy and I tackled replacement of an evaporator sensor in a Ford Fusion. A $30 sensor that takes 60 seconds to actually change out........AFTER you pull the entire dash out! Console, gearshift, A pillars, floor trim, steering knuckle, cluster, countless plugs, and a double handful of assorted screws and nuts. Took us 2.5 hours start to finish.

Too many cars are made to be assembled with absolutely no thought to servicing.

Today's first challenge was front brake pads and rotors on a Kia Sorento, easy peasey. Realized during the process that on the previous pad replacement job some bonehead swapped the inboard and outboard pads with each other, must have had to beat them with a hammer to get the caliper on. Also explains the weird wear of the rotors. Then since all the parts arrived today, I replaced the original, non functioning 2 din stock radio in my other daughters 1999 QX4 with a cheapo single din radio. I bought all the adaptors and stuff needed to make it fairly easy.

Done my youngest son's bike working for him today, told me the thing cost £2000 new for this Specialised. Think it had been round the block and a few bodges before he bought it off internet. But nearly sorted now.
