"It's alive I tell You alive" So I went at getting it running today. Put the carb back together and got it installed. The jets were both clean as a whistle and wide open. This Dellorto 17.5mm carb is good for a while. I squirted some starter fluid in and it ran for that heart beat so I got excited. I pulled the petcock to see what was in the fuel tank. When it came out some dust came with it. Good news no old fuel to clean out. I flushed some gas through and put the new petcock I had hanging in my spares on it. Put some premix in because I don't know what the oil pump situation is. I started it again and it ran great. Time for the switch. I got that installed and drilled out an unused hole in the frame to mount it. It's kind of out of the way so not too noticeable. I figured out the starter button is bad but the relay is good. I was going to swap the horn button but it's bad too. Instead I unplugged it and stuck a jumper in the connector on it started. I went to turn it off and it stayed running. That's what the other 2 wires are. I shorted them out and it stopped. Time for another switch, it will all be good in the end and may help make it harder to figure out.

Yesterday with the day off I installed the second switch so I could turn it off. I went at the front end and pulled the hub and got the caliper free. Lots of PBBlaster and I went at the snapped bolt with no luck. I found one of the bolts holding the caliper together loose. I tried tightening and nothing. I tried taking it out and nothing. I went at the other bolt and it was frozen as well. I got out the impact gun and got the both out. Cleaned the threads and put it together I had a spare set of pads because the originals just fell apart. I cleaned the old caked grease out of the hub and axel re greased and got it together. It was still leaking. I went poking in the ET4 parts and found the old caliper there and couldn't remember why I changed them. I mounted it on the scoot. I went to pull the master cylinder cover and lots of PB Blaster and no luck with the JIS screw driver so I pulled out the impact driver and they loosened up. It was a mess in there. I sucked the black brake fluid out and bled the brakes. Put the cover on and I had pressure. I looked down at the caliper and it was leaking. Oh that's why I replaced it. I need to start throwing bad parts away, all they are good for is as paperweights. Just then I got an email from Scooterpartsco that they were back ordered on the black calipers but that he would send me a red one. Good timing it shipped yesterday and I should see it Monday.
While I was working on the master cylinder I discovered the handle bars were crooked. Sh*t to I have a bad steering column, is it bent? I found a dowel that would fit and put it down the tube, checked for plumb and it was good. I then laid a straight edge across the bars and they were bent. I found one on Ebay $29 and free shipping. The steering is also a little stiff and crunchy so I order new headset bearings and while I was there I got a new front fender for $39. Since I need to pull the steer column that would be the time for a replacement.
I put the air filter in and it started right up and purred. I put premix in the tank because I haven't touched the oil system. The scoot had the perfect amount of 2t make at Idle. I pulled the oil tube and it wasn't putting anything out so I guess that's the next thing on my list. All things considered it's not in too bad a shape and is a pretty rewarding project. When my caliper and rear brake handle come in I give it a run on the road. I'll probably take a peak into the CVT to see what's hiding in there.

Back at it today. While I wait for parts to show up I thought I would clean out the oil system. Not knowing what was in there I pulled the tank and drained it. . I pulled the CVT cover after PB Blasting all of the screws. I was terrified that I would snap one. Cleaned out the lines and bled the pump. I have new lines coming just to get the old ones out and new in. I have the tubing to do it bot they have some shapes to them and they were pretty cheap. I ordered a new Oil pump belt as well so as to not take any chances. Got a look at the transmission. It was pretty clean. I noticed how far into the clutch the stock belt is. There is a fear among Piaggio guys that the belt will run into the oil pump up at the variator. I'll take my chances. The belt looked new and I'll run it until I start tuning the CVT. It was a good couple of hours. Clean Tank Clutch, notice how much room there is.

Glad you're getting that pup taken care of. I'm hoping to have my Allstate ready for when it gets warm again in May. I wonder if we'll be locked down again then

I have some time off from work and the Vespa parts showed up. First order was fix the front end. That involves bearings and fender. Pulling the old bars was not a big job. Not having the tool to loosed the head nut I just tapped it with a hammer and chisel. In Robots video he kept saying it's easier with two people and he's right. It dropped out fine, I put it on the lift backwards so I could use the trap door for the first time. Once it was out it was time to clean the raceways out, I had new ones but the old were it great shape once they were clean. Here are pictures of it:
It is one sad looking scoot
This scoot saw too many years of neglect
You can see the old grease caked in the lower bearing Just a few quick taps and it was loose I saw water on the lift and realized that it had been in the fork: Getting the raceways and the fork cleaned up was a chore but they were perfect after. I put the whole thing back together and it looked great. Getting the new bars on was easy. So today I put the new caliper on and bleed the brakes. The red caliper looks great on it: I put the new rear brake handle on and adjusted those brakes. replaced the starter and horn button with new ones. I then went to put the instrument surround on and it didn't line up with the holes, s*it. About then collinsd84 my neighbor showed up and we scratched our heads and realized That there must have been a change some where. So Off they came and on went the old one, heat and a big pipe got them straight and everything switched back over. oh well onto Ebay with the replacement bars. Got the surround on and rebled the brakes. David went home and got a light he had and we played with it, I couldn't get it bright enough so off in the dark on its maiden voyage. Boy is this scoot quick, I was holding back because no headlight in the dark is a little scary. I'll take it out again tomorrow and see how it feels. I'll also see if I can find a light for it.

pinkscoot was racing down the street on the ET2, as I was walking across with a seat of mine he wanted to try. I can only imagine the smile on his face. It was too dark to see. Seems he was happy with how fast it went. Once he gets all the bits and bobs together it will be his new love. BTW I thought, pretty sure you have a bad light switch. None of the other lights dimmed, when we tried the headlight IMHO.

I'm going to try and power it directly from the battery, that should do it, I just need to find a switch and relay.
