My Dream Scoot Vespa ET2 Out of Storage

I've owned for almost 3 years but wanted to work on a new project and dragged it out of storage. In November to see if it would run.

I pulled the Gianelli to put back on the SR50 and put the stock back on, I doubt the 50cc cylinder could make the C16 work. Just to see how much Carb tuning I would need to do I started it. Started right up and seemed to rev okay. Hmmm I may not need to do much. Thats a project for tomorrow.

So I have been riding this some but it is a little slow for my taste. I was going to put the Malossi MHR replica kit on it but decided that would be for the future. Instead I bought a DR Racing Evo 72cc kit.. They are a decent kit solid but not exciting. I'll save the money for an Overange kit. Here are pictures:















The install was uneventful. I pulled the engine and then regretted it. It has way too many wires that don't have connectors. When I was done I saw that I could have done it with it in. I did do a port map and checked durations. I wasn't able to check squish my solder is at work. The Exhaust duration is 175 deg and transfers are 125deg. I could probably open the exhaust a little and improve that.



The old head was covered in oil again so I suspect a leak around the plug.

The other crazy thing was the plug wouldn't go in the new head. I pulled it and saw that the plug hole sits at a slight angle. Good to know, I'll need to be careful in the future. I up jetted to a 90MJ from 80. I also broke the lead on my temp gauge so that will need replacing. It started up and ran well. I let it run a little and it revved smoothly. I quit for the day, I'll get the cooling shroud back on and give it a ride tomorrow. Next up the Yasuni C16. Remember boys and girls one thing at a time get that set then move on to the next thing.

I got the shroud on and took it for a ride. The 90 main jet and 48 pilot jet were a little big. I had the A/F screw all the way in and it was still too rich. I went to 42 Pilot jet and wanted to go to 88 main but all I had was a 86. I must have 3 of each size in the 70's and 90's but not many 80's. Time for a Treatland order. Took it out and it ran well. It topped out at 8000rpm so I was thinking a CDI limiter. I went from 5.5 gram rollers to 4.5gram and it got up to 8800rpm. I was able to see 45mph indicated. The throttle cable is a little wonky still. I just piled things on the end to get it tight but they are way to janky to work. I think I have a solution but I had to get to work to babysit an orchestra of doctors. Maybe tomorrow evening. I'm debating whats next. The Yasuni 16 or the overange transmission. I know I'm being held back by the CVT so that may be my next purchase. I need to get the revs up to 10,000 rpm for it to get its power. Maybe I throw the Yasuni since I have it. I'll ride it as is for a bit and get it tuned in.

are you going to do gears? i still haven't put my 70cc on my et2 because i was hoping to find gears to go along with it.

Congratulations. 20 years you have some cleaning and replacing to do. I wouldn't even try to start it until you drain all of the fluids and replace the belt and air cleaner.

Nice find. Like said, I would give it a serious going over before starting it up.

All looked at and went over by shop. It runs like new.  I have it at a scooter shop now for new tires.

Which tires are you getting. I'm still running on the original front and the old back one from my ET4. Yes I do like living on the edge.

Well I got my Treatland order last week and got the jet swapped to an 88 and put the new CHT plug end on so I can see where the temps are. It was much nicer WOT and mid but a little rough taking off. I adjusted the A/F screw and ended up all the way in. It's fine but maybe just a tad rich. Next time I pull the carb I'll swap it to a 40. meanwhile I'll ride it for the week and see how it feels.
