Hello guys, I have a Zuma '08 and I recently changed the belt (old one was super thin and used). When I put it back together and took the bike for a spin I instantly noticed a loss of power while I pulled on the throttle. It will not really die, and will still gain speed, but it sort of sputters. I am a noob, so anything would help. Thank you.

Probably your new belt is the wrong size, try a Naraku NK900.12 or NK900.004 check with your vendor that it is 738X16.5 or pop into to your Yamaha Dealer for an O.E.one geoff

Check that you placed the rollers back into the proper position. It’s easy for them to fall out of place during reassembly and that will cause you to start in a higher gear ratio causing a boggy slower acceleration.

I’d replace the rollers while you’re in there. If your belt needs changing, the rollers probably do as well.

Update: Scooter will not hold idle anymore. And check for air leaks.

Thank you for all the responses. How do I check for air leaks, and what roller weights should I use for my setup? Also, I have the OEM belt, but it was a lot thicker than the one I replaced, don't know if it was due to wear, or incorrect size.

Should cost less than $35 and is better than most others. When you put the variator back on, you need to hold it together while it slides on. Or else the rollers can come loose and it won't shift right. I'd suggest trying some lighter rollers in there, maybe 5.5g for the stock pipe.

Air leaks. Start scoot and spray carb cleaner around intake . If rpms stumble. Air leak.

Does not sound like an air leak it would cause high idle or no start, just adjust your carb if the new belt is much wider maybe it's binding or actually a wider belt kills take off as it rides higher up on the variator I doubt it's roller related just adjust your idle screw a little to make it idle simple as that wider belts kill take off remember that.

I did get the 08 zuma oem belt from bikebandit.

That should liven things up. Another trick for zumas is the rear torque driver. If you can find a replacement that has a straight slot (like one meant for a jog 90) instead of a curved slot (like the OEM Zuma torque driver does) that will help acceleration.

Oh, and then idle situation maybe something simple like a clogged air cleaner or muffler. If it's time to change the belt, it's probably time to do other stuff too.

id say check wiring, electrical plugs. is it cutting out? poor wiring plug connection will do that. so cold a wire that's broke internally. happened to me on my 75 ironhead
