Ive never ran out of gas, well twice but that was on purpose to see true range of a 3L gas tank on my '80s scooters 75Km at 66KPH. Ive had one belt shred on me while drag racing my wife. Me on my 50cc 2t(Vino) her on my 150. Piston rings failing and destroying my piston and cylinder(EliteR) and two getting holes in the piston(both our Vinos). Other then my Vino blowing its piston had to get the wife to pick me up. everything has bin less then a mile walk

I've pushed my scooters a few times and I've walked home and then rescued my scooter in my truck a few times. But I don't recall anything remarkable about those incidents.
There was one time, though, on a motorized bicycle (2 stroke, tiny, add-on engine) when the engine stopped very abruptly. I think I suspected that the magneto had died and I think that's exactly what it turned out to be. In any case, I tried to start if back up a few times and then called a friend and asked him to come rescue me. I was on one of those 45 mph, four lane roads with a good breakdown lane. I took the bike about 20 feet or so further off the road and locked it to a sign post.
My friend would have taken me home to get my truck. But it had started snowing and the forecast was for some accumulation. So, instead, we just went to his house and drank beer the rest of the day.
The next day I drove to work and picked up the bike on the way home. When I pulled the bike out of the snow I brushed the snow off of the seat and found one of those red stickers that the cops will put on broken down cars. You know the sort of thing I'm talking about; essentially a warning to get that car out of there before they tow it themselves.
That bike could not have been there more than an hour, and probably less, for that sticker to have been under that snow. And why in the world put something like that on a bicycle, well off of the roadway, anyway?
The police in this town have always been good to me and we don't have any problem with each other. The guy who put that sticker on there probably recognized me. Most of them do. Though there is some turnover in personnel. All the same, someone was being just plain dumb that day.

Maybe they were just marking it so that any potential thief would know they were watching it... My son used to get lit up and pulled over occasionally just because the cop was a former SRO at his school and they were friends. All kinds of strange things can happen in a 'community'

During a tuning ride today just as I crossed a busy main road at a light the scoot cut off, it just died no warning no weird sounds. The road I was on was also very busy, but at least it had a sidewalk. I coasted as far as I could on the sidewalk, got off and pushed it 50 yards to a convenience store parking lot. I looked down and the spark plug boot was hanging off the side. I looked at the plug and the screw on tip was not in its place, I found the tip still in the spark plug boot. The threads were stripped out of the screw on tip, but luckily the boot held it on good enough to get me back to the warehouse. This happens to me every time I do not somehow anchor the boot so it will not twist on the plug. There is a tab on the shrouds that I usually drill a hole in and use a tie wrap to anchor the boot so it will not twist every time the suspension moves up and down. It took less than 250 miles on this build for it to happen. It it fixed now.

At least it was simple. Another bonus for a naked scoot. Are you using the plugs with the non-removable tips? And the snap on plug caps.

Been using the iridium plugs that the tip screws on and off of, dont know if they come with the solid tip, it would be nice if they do. I was using the red NGK plug cap and wire, but I noticed the seat bucket must be hitting it when the suspension bottoms out. I switched back to the brown NGK plug cap when I got back to the shop. Now that I think about it the red cap saved my arse because it stayed on the plug. The brown one would have just kept falling off on every bump after the tip stripped out.

What plug are you using? Look for solid tip on NGK website, it’ll be the same part number but a different 4 digit item #.

Back when i was getting my 2t running (with its float needle issues at the time unresolved) i was out for my first slightly longer testride. It cut out on me about 3 miles from home and i had to work an hour later. As i started the hasty push home, some dillweed chucked his half full mcdonalds cup at me as he was driving by. Insult on injury, wife grabbed my straight gas jug, not the premixed jug. Left the bike on the side of the road, ran back and got the premix, and returned to a tipped over bike. That was a rough day...

Yep , I've had 2 of these "incidents" . 1st one I pulled into a parking space at a local market and the throttle cable broke . No biggie there as far as danger. Called a contractor friend with a truck and he was able to come . Called another friend too, since I couldn't really be of much help with a 300lb. scooter and together we managed to get it in the back of his truck and drove about 2 miles with me in the back of the truck to keep it from tipping ; in the pouring down rain . happy ending tho.
Only time I tried to go out of town ; I had about 50 lbs. of my drywall tools on the floorboard and basket and seat and stuff bungied to the basket on a good 2 lane country road going between 40 and 50 mph. - and the belt broke . I'm probably still alive cause it just coasted to a stop and didn't lock up and the road had a good margin by the white line on the right. There were a couple of homes a short walk away. The homeowner I was working for came and got me and I was able to leave the scoot at somebodies property overnite and came back the next day in a uhaul van and got it home after work.

After building the red/black Ruckus I took it for a test ride and all was going well until I smelled gas. I looked down and saw it was leaking gas onto the exhaust manifold, so I pulled over and realized the gas line was cracked plus the fuel drain screw on the bottom of the carb was not tight. Thankfully it didn't catch on fire. Didn't have any tools with me so I had to push it back home. I wasn't too far from home, but it was summertime(90f) and the middle of the afternoon. All test rides after that were limited to around the block.

First real test drive on the 98 Helix. Its an unusually warm day for March, (about a week ago...) The bike feels good, the ride feels better, I foolishly believe I have things worked out. I decide to take her down a back road here, because I love the twisties.
I'm running along at fifty miles an hour, climb a hill, at the top I let off the gas, and she coasts down the hill, I go to give her some move juice to pull out of the curve at the bottom of that hill, and to climb the next. And she sputters and dies.
Thought maybe going from wot to idle and back had possibly flooded her something, I try to start it back. It would pop, and almost catch then it wouldn't do anything. At this point I am three miles from the house, no cell service (thanks a lot AT&T)/with a 650 pound bike to push uphill. I'm pissed. I check the carb, and I don't smell fuel. I start poking around and see a bare spot in the wires for the fuel pump. Since that's in the pulse circuit for the cdi, I wig out.
Thankfully I was able to tape the wire and bridge the fuse, she started up and drove on home. So not really a walk of shame, but completely my fault. I knew better than to go that far....

Since my scoot is immobilized in my garage every walk is a semi-walk of shame. I just wonder if a drop of red Loctite would keep those plug terminals from falling off, -maybe even some superglue?
