howdy everyone! progress report on the aero, all it took to line up the ports was 1 thick gasket. (thanks 190 for the link to those gasket making tips. I forgot you can transfer the pattern with a few taps from a hammer. learned about that back in the oil field, don't see how I could forget a trick like that... so motor is pretty much back together. I ended up drilling port holes on the boost to line up with the wholes on the piston at BDC. then I used a spare 84 spree head because it has a better smaller combustion chamber maybe get the compression lost on the thicker base gasket

so Ive come to the realization im keeping both the orange and blue one. both 84's. af05 in the orange one, ab07 in the blue. with that said, got my jdm tail light for blue. so much better looking. US tail lights look like an after thought.

I thought I post some progress updates on these 2. my blue aero is good and doing fine. I installed the jdm tail light, has an led headlight, this one only has blue under glow for now. im thinking about wrapping my white panel set in blue chrome. ill have to do it myself since no one wants to my emails sent regarding a quote on price. any one have tips or pointers? ive never messed with vinyl wraps. I ended up installing the 5 spoke alloy wheels on this one cause it has blue between the polished parts. so I have 3.0-10 front tire and a 90/90-10 on the rear. fits fine with cooling tins and shock. was gonna run an 87 elite fork on it to keep rim direction the same way except the 84 aero has a 14" stem as opposed to the 12" stem that 85-86 aeros and 87 and up elites have. so I ended up welding a brake stop on the left hand fork link. seems to be working just fine and I love the upgraded 110mm front brake compared to the stock 80mm front brake drum. I also installed the ab07/ af01 bbk motor in blue. I had to add material to the cases. then grind and port match the cases to the polini af01/ lead50 47mm big bore kit. I also installed new c3 6004 bearings and new crank seals. at the moment im running a dio manifold with the 19mm keihin carb. im running the jdm af05 3 petal reed block for now. it runs great has good pickup even with the 90/90. a2.75-10 was too wheelie happy. and so far ive gps it at 57mph. I drilled out the variator boss from 14mm to 15mm and have an aftermarket dio overrange variator on it with an old belt. need to order a new belt and see what I can get her to on top speed. all and all im extremely happy with blue. heres some pics of the progress

I like it. it was a fleabay 80$ pipe. originally made for a vertical Yamaha. I modified the head pipe to fit my honda. its pretty sturdy. only issue ive had with it is cracking on the modified head pipe. the piece I welded in is a little thin. its cracked twice. and ive rewelded it. the rest of the pipe is still solid. mounting bracket and all. only problem I have had is my doing...

Iv seen them there. Not concerned of the clear coat finish. I sandblast them and use exhaust paint. They don't rust as quick and less maintenance.

What would this cause? Forgive my ignorance. Those rims look great, really really great. Polished was definitely the way to go with that shade of blue IMO. You're right about turning up the beef factor.

it causes an exhaust leak. with an expansion chamber exhaust, it changes back pressure and hinders performance. I said this because it sounds louder than usual and its a bit slower off the line than usual. thanks for the complement on the rims. I like them a lot better on the blue one more than the orange one. I just bought a 9 spoke wheel set for the tacky orange

I love this build and am trying to keep my girlfriends 84' NB50 up to date up performance wise. Did you need any variator mods to get this thing to 49mph? Only thing done to her scoot is a Uni air filter and new carb which runs really well for stock, but that doesn't get her past 35mph on flat ground. Take off is very strong and it feels like theres more in the tank with some mods for sure. There isn't as much tuning support for these older models so I was relieved to find this thread!
