How many miles (overall lifespan) can you expect from Chinese 50cc scooter with stock parts?
When I say stock parts I mean without BBK but yes to upgraded carburetor and sparkplug

How many miles (overall lifespan) can you expect from Chinese 50cc scooter with stock parts? One dealer opinion. Amazon TaoTao ATM50-A1 reviews.

Most common range is probably 5,000-10,000 miles I'd guess. They've certainly been around with more miles. Around 20,000 is the high end of what I recall. I think a lot of times the way they're used people trade for newer or larger or modify them before they make it to tons of miles. Some fail prematurely, but sometimes it could be operator error. Rental scooters at the beach are mostly 139QMBs around here and they seem to trust them up to about 1,000 miles and then they sell them, so if you want to beat the crap out of one then I'd go with their educated guess of 1,000 miles. That's with people trying to do wheelies on them, burnouts, jumping off of curbs, and anything else that sounds entertaining to them. I've got 5,000 miles on my ATM50 that's almost always WOT and has done it's share of burnouts and no reason to believe it's about to quit on me. Compression tests still showing pretty much the same specs as new. My biggest issues have been leaks and other parts of the scooter falling apart.

Complete engine failure is rare in the last 5 years and lack of or no maintenance is usually the cause of engine failure. The engines outlasts the riders ability to not crash their scooter. 50cc Chinese scooters rarely hit 10,000 miles without a crash. There are also different grades of Chinese scooters with Bintelli on the high end and the internet sale of the week, drop ship to your door no brand.

My Chinese scoot has 6,000 miles on it and, runs well and does not burn any oil...yet. It could, of course, blow up tomorrow and that is why the Japanese scoots cost so much more...because they won't. At least the parts are cheap.

Thats were I learned all my repairs and dos and don’ts. I upgraded to a bintelli scorch 50cc and I totally agree with u. I took care of the atm50 Sold it at 8k. And the owner still owns it lol. It has 13k with minimum problems. So I absolutely agree with u.👍

Mine has 3k miles and is still running like new(could grenade tomorrow)but has been fairly ok.
Broke the stock belt at 1k and trashed the clutch and variator. Kick start spring was a pain in the ass so I eliminated the kick start. Spilled gas on tail light and replaced that.
Other than regular oil and gear oil change change and upgrading to a Iridium plug its been doing alright.
Only other thing is I have always ran Sunoco 100 Octane Race Gas since day one and run the scooter WOT all the time.

Funny it was a Tao Tao , it only had a Contra spring sliders in his Koso Variator and a decent ignition kitco coil and Naraku cdi that black one that is non adjustable . It was getting 15/40 T5 Rotella when i did it and that was often, it ran nice idled nice had nice pickup off the start and kept pulling so it was great for a commuter style scoot .. I think it lasted so long because he never over revved it and maintained a decent service schedule all the time ,O and kept air in the Tires that makes a Huge difference believe it or not!! Low tires are like adding a rider on your bike all the time making the drive system work hard when it should not be ! lol

So many have unrealistic speed expectations, install a big-bore-kit, run wide-open-throttle, then experience bearing failure!

wow...those expectations are a bit lower than I was expecting and hoping for. I got my Frankenscoot with around 7,000 kilometers on the clock, then the gauges stopped working but I estimate it now has 15-20k kilometers or 10,000-13,000 miles on it if that is accurate. im skeptical if the odometer was accurate when I got it since my scoot is made from a 2013 or 14 TaoTao engine on what I think is a 2 stroke frame a Yamati rx-8 eurostrada from 2006 and it came with a Tomos cvt cover .... it looked as if I bought it from a China special chop shop being run in a multi family house driveway with half a dozen guys rebuilding and parting out no less then 10 scooters when I arrived
Anyways my point is I ran it over 10k miles before I broke the kickstarter and have had trouble starting it but once it gets started and gets the air/fuel and idle dialed in then it runs like a top at fairly typical tuned stock 139qmb rates. I recently noticed some frame rot on I think the engine hanger mount in the middle. I am hoping to get at least 20k-40k miles out of it if i keep it and run it all next year.
When estimating how long these engines last I feel like thats a hard thing to do since so many parts need to be replaced or rebuilt. I think the case & frame could last forever if one were to watch enough of Brent's videos, keep rebuilding and replace bearings along with top ends etc along with learning how to use a welder if you get rust

Presto, your goals?? Over 40mph and then a big bore kit they are at odds with trying to get a high milage it of your scoot. It,s old fashioned of me but your scoot should last forever if you stay within the design limits and keep to the servicing procedures,As long as you accept that seals, plugs pads ect are expected to wear out and be replaced as needed the expensive bits should see you out.But it,s not as much fun as thrash and burn Geoff
