I have realized my digital calipers are not deep enough to accurately measure the diameter of my pipe. Gotta get a caliper with more reach or figure a way to measure the pipe accurately so I can cut it in the right place.

How about a piece of wire so it can’t stretch.

Got a little done, it's better than doing nothing at all. Look close and you can see the scribe mark for the first cut I will be making I saw some type of sharpening machine in one of the pawn shops here. I may buy it if their price is good. It looks something like an industrial record player but without a tonearm. The aluminium platter spins very fast and has some mass. I think I can repurpose it to be a decent horizontal grinder or sander. It might make fitting up these pipe joints easier.

I remember pipe builder "ROOST" commented on a 2 stroke forum about using a modified record turntable with a strong magnet attached to make clean welds on his pipes while it slowly rotated...

I got the sharpener from the pawn shop for $60. Its old and beat up, but I think it will work for what I want to do with it. I am going to attach sandpaper to the platter or a cutting disk....somehow.

Dang! That looks like its got some horse power!! 1/2 HP 1750 RPM direct drive motor, 14"x1" solid aluminum platter. I looked it up, and it's $1700 for a new one. I picked up a 14" cutoff wheel that I am going to try and mount it to the platter somehow. I may ask you to turn an adaptor on the lathe for me.EDIT: This is what I need, should work perfect. 14" peel and stick aluminium oxide disk
