No no no no clones please!😭 How about looking for a 2nd hand one or maybe go with a 21mm PHBG? Or find something from the older 80cc MX scene? Cr80, yz80, kx80, rm80 etc etc. Or maybe re-jet a 4t road bike carb? I understand your worry over clones. He has sold many and has good feedback on these and I can return it if it is junk. The used market is pretty much non existent over here or I would be all about a used one. Do you think the 21mm PHBG would be ok? That would save me some money big time because I already have an intake that should match up good to it. Not sure how it works out with shipping, but says in stock and $125. www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/carburettor-dell-orto-phbl-25-bs-02731-round-slider_41000000?usrc=phbl%2025EDIT : For me shipping is between $38-$145 so you could surely get it under $200 based on that. Look at their tuning supplies too if you're gonna order. I think that's where I got my PHBL long ago. A lot of people like clones. First one I bought was the 34mm "Keihin" PWK. I'm scared now after the needle bushing just falls out. If they can't make that fit right consistently, I have to wonder how close anything in the carb is. I'm sure clone quality varies quite a bit though. I did look on SIP but did not see that one, I'll have to look at your link. I already bought the tuning supplies I think I would need for the PHBL so a carb and an intake should be all I need. This is sorta what I need to go the PHBL route unless I use my existing CT style intake and big reed block. Decisions, decisions. www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/carburettor-kit-malossi-phbl-25-1611008-round-slider-for-honda-kymco_M1611008Thanks, I appreciate the offer but I think we can get it done here. I will compare price and shipping to what SIP offers. I am in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, USA

I’d imagine you could get by with a 21mm. The manufacturer recommends 24mm min. Even me not being a big carb guy, I do like to follow their advice. 86cc at 14000RPM sounds like quite a bit for 21mm.

My thoughts also. I am pretty comfortable tuning the PHBG, and it would save money which is high on my list ATM.

I don't think it will self destruct with a 21. I am fairly certain it will do just fine. A small carb will be less detrimental than one thats too big. And you could always sell it again and swap to a bigger one if you find it being too small.

TPR 86cc motor build: Budget confirms I will be trying the PHBG 21mm carb. There are some other things I will need to buy to get this going, like materials to build a pipe. I have been working on opening up an aftermarket intake that is meant for a 19mm PHBG so I can use it with a 21mm PHBG. I decided the only way to get the job done is to cut it apart. I also got rid of some twists and turns in the intake path so the carb points straight into the reed block. Unmodified on the right, modified on the left. If time and skills allow I will TIG this up sometime later this week.

👍👍
Looks better than 98.9% of my welds (I get lucky on occasion) and I'm still down here in grade school with steel.
I'm enjoying the project. 🍿

TPR 86cc motor build: Wondering what reed thickness I should use on this higher revving motor, maybe medium thickness.
Also for the iggy I believe I will use the HPI mini rotor setup I had on the 120cc. I will likely just go back to the stock iggy for the 125cc Vastro build, because I believe the TPR 86cc will be the higher revving of the two.

TPR 86cc engine build: Epoxied the cases a bit. Some for filling in dead space around the crank, some to help the mismatch at the transfer.

I see they have a carbon fiber reed kit with 3 different thicknesses to replace the stock Kymco metal reeds. $13 for the reeds, $52 for shipping. Maybe I can find the kit closer to me.

TPR 86cc Motor build: I found the Malossi reed kit at ScooterpartsCo for a reasonable amount so I ordered it today.
I am kicking around filling in the dead space where the crank shaft passes through the small case half. It wont be near as much to fill as the area in the large half was. As a matter of fact I have to push the crankshaft seal into the small half quite a bit to clear the taper of the shaft, I guess I could just push the crank seal in even further and not bother with epoxy.

It's only a true race motor if it has JB Weld inside.

TPR 86cc motor build: I got the crank seal in the small half of the case sorted out today by seating it deeper than you normally would. I cannot seat it as deep as I wanted to because it would rub the shoulder on the crank where it transitions to the bearing journal. So I guess it reduced the case volume just a little, better than nothing I suppose.
