TPR 86cc Motor build: The Malossi reed kit came today .30 .35 .40 they are for a stock reed block. Treatland is having a sale so I picked up a Polini reed block for a good deal, looks like it will have more throughput than the stock reed block. Either way I am covered.
Vastro 123cc Motor build: I have been waiting on a flycutter since I ordered it on Sept29 Its arrival date has come and gone with no word from the seller so I cancelled it and will order a different one. The one I ordered was a 4" with a carbide insert. I think I will just order a kit of 3 sizes that use HSS. I was trying to not have to grind a HSS cutter but it looks like it is inevitable that I will have to now.

The Polini reed block arrived from Treatland. So disappointed in it. I dont know whether to send it back or try to fix it.

That's disappointing. Even the Minarelli vertical engine stock reed valve has more area to breathe.

Flip the petals over, see if they are closed then. I learned during my internship at VHM that reed petals sometimes might be a little bulged. If they are flipped the wrong way they no longer fully close in idle position. And I am not surprised the Polini cage doesn't habe any visible performance benefits over stock like aeroxbud said. They are probably a cheaper but similar quality alternative to OEM peugeot/Honda ones. An OEM cage might be in the 50-60 bucks range directly from the manufacturer.

I took the Polini reed cage over to the warehouse so I could compare it to a stock cage. The "performance" Polini is trash, does not flow near as much as a stock cage. I dont return stuff much but this is going back to Treatland. Performance should not be in the description of this thing.

TPR 86cc motor build: Got the intake, carb and air filter (uni style) mostly sorted out today. It should be easy to change carb sizes if it comes to that. Almost ready for cleaning and assembly.

TPR 86 motor build: Chipping away at this as I get the time. I got things cleaned up and the crank installed. The crank is not as free as I would like but it will do. It was a bit tricky getting the cases and spacer sealed up along with getting the crank installed. I also lined the intake with epoxy putty to bring it closer to the inside diameter of the 21mm PHBG.
Installed the cylinder studs into the cases with blue thread locker.
I have sealed the cylinder base spacer and shim together with copper spray, then sealed that to the cases with motoseal. Temporarily bolted the cylinder up to hold that in place. I will probably use motoseal between cylinder and base spacer for final assembly, but it would be nice to use something that comes apart easily. Earlier I was checking fit of o rings and trying to figure out how to get all 11 of them to stay in place during assembly when one of the small o rings jumped off of the table and rolled somewhere, I looked for it for quite a while but have not found it yet.

Earlier I was checking fit of o rings and trying to figure out how to get all 11 of them to stay in place during assembly when one of the small o rings jumped off of the table and rolled somewhere, I looked for it for quite a while but have not found it yet. I use a very light coating of grease on o-rings. Install all of them on the top of the actual cylinder head and then press that into the head cover. Install the big outer orange o-ring and then all of the ones in the bottom of the head. Put it on and keep it snug while you get nuts started so nothing can move. That part is probably easier with a horizontal engine... but yours is on the bench right now so just tip it over so gravity isn't fighting you with the o-rings. I thought the kit came with an extra small o-ring for the studs. If not, I may have something around if you need it.

TPR 86cc Motor build: I never could find the o ring I lost yesterday, but I did stumble across a complete spare gasket set I didn't even know I had.LoL! I got the top end assembled and torqued, the lower intake sealed and bolted up. Then I worked on setting the HPI Iggy up. I went with the TPR86 manual recommendations and set the Iggy to 20° in my case that worked out to 1.64mm BTDC. HPI recommends you start with 2mm with the possibility of moving as much as 4mm. I tried to set the flywheel in a position on the stator that would allow me move timing either direction as necessary. I think all that is left is to assemble the gearbox, choose components for the carb setup, and figure out a temporary exhaust.

Yes, if you remember I made some not so minor mods to a Piaggio exhaust back on page 9 of this thread. 190Mech helped me with the large center section I spliced in, I may try to resurrect that pipe. I dont know, I have more time than $$ so I may get around to building a new pipe at some point, but I will likely just rig something up as usual.LOL This is the pipe I am talking about.
