I get mine from kaseaparts.com or PFS usually. Scrappydog has them and is usually quite fast in my experience.

thanks Brent- I was happy to find out they accept orders over the phone. I called em this morning and ordered the seal kit, which came with all four. So I may venture farther in my scooter experience and replace the other side as well. Im curious to know- some 2t oil is leaking past my vari side seal and into the cvt. Where is this oil coming from? And is it a bad sign that some other part is failing?

If it's coming from the seal, there's really only one place it can be coming from.... the crankcase.

Ok, so the oil is coming from the crankcase, sure. Am I missing something here? I guess I dont understand completely how oil injection works. Is there supposed to be oil in the crank case?

Oil is injected into the carb and travels through the intake, reeds, crankcase, and into the cylinder along with the air/fuel mixture.

Check your drive shaft (were the rear pulley goes on) seal as well. Ive seen those fail and cause a trans fluid leak that gets fluid slung all over the CVT.

Hey guys, I got a question about this crank seal- pertaining to the one behind the vari and starter clutch, is it behind the starter gear or is it in the case?
I havent got them yet, I was just gonna tear it down till then. thats on hold till i can get my impact driver for the two philips heads that hold the starter gear on. But i took the snap ring out, and it looks like the seal has to be removed from inside the case.
I cant tell for sure till i get that big starter ring gear outta the way, but can someone fill me in and tell me i dont have the pull the cases apart to do this? I may just give up on it if i do...

is there a part of the case that gets unbolted behind the starter gear that allows access to that seal?

I don't think I've ever replaced that seal aside from doing a crank install, but you should be able to do it from outside. Once the snap ring is off, there should be nothing else in front of the seal. Should be able to puncture it and pull it out with a bent/curved pick. Just be gentle so you don't damage anything around or behind the seal.

If you poke a hole in in you will be able to screw a screw into it and pull the seal out with a pair of pliers.

That snap ring is held in by an aluminum lip. I took the starter gear off, which had a thin needle bearing in it. The inner part of that bearing rides on a race that appears to be pressed onto that aluminum part, which appears to be part of the case. I can prolly get the seal out past that lip, but the seal is as big as the snap ring by itself, and in order to get the snap ring out you must compress it to pull it past that lip. I dunno if ill be able to bend and work the seal in without damaging it. unless i grind away the lip and do away with the snap ring.

I looked through the triton r4 manual's engine section, and it doesnt even look like they go over how to replace that seal. Ive seen the ones by the gears, and the right one behind the stator, but even then it appears the engine cases have to be split.
Could this seal be bad due to too much run out? If thats the case, Ill pull the engine. But I'll need to find someone to send it to in order to have it rebuilt and possibly stroked. The stuffs cheap enough and im not gonna split the cases and do just one seal. Might as well go through the whole thing.
Who wants to build my motor if it comes to that?? 190mech- you live about 2 1/2 hrs from me....how bout it?
