That sucks. I think you could get the fine reduced at least. Just explain that it's a malfunctioning system (that of course is now fixed).

You guys must have some very understanding judges. Here, the judge would look down at you over the top of her glasses and say "So, Mr Assasin...you mean to tell me that you KNOWINGLY went on the road with a defective motorcycle?!? And even so, you should have known to use a hand signal! You know what? I shall now charge you for careless driving, wreckless driving, AND failure to signal...Pay at the window downstairs. Have a good day!" <gavel smacks block>

Sometimes "Go to court" is code for "I'm not going to show up for this ticket so you will win". Hopefully it will be for you. Go od luck

I'd go to court and at lest try to get a fine reduction. Lots of judges will cut it in half just because you showed up in your Sunday best with an explanation. It's worth a try.

America truly is the Land of the Free isn't it? Come on...admit it! Dudes...in Jamaica if you turn up to court that's viewed as a sign of defiance and will in all likelihood cost you far more. And what's that about cop not showing up and you go free? LMFAO! If the cop doesn't show up you get another court date! I know people who have been to court five times and not once did the case get thrown out. Another friend of mine made a legal left turn at a slip road (that's the only time we can turn on a red light in Jamaica). When she made the turn she was stopped by a cop for breaking the red light. She decided to go to court because this was an open and shut case. So she thought. The cop came to court and lied through his teeth that she went through the red light and then turned instead of using the slip road. My friend respectfully explained to the judge that the cop must have been mistaken because that's not what happened. The judge sat back in her chair and said "That's nice ma'am, but see...my dilimna is that I know this gentleman...I don't know you...Guilty as charged...pay at the window downstairs...<gavel hits block> Bailif! Next case, please..." As KRS-1 once said "Can there really be justice on stolen land?"

Moral of the story, continue past Hertz and catch a cab if you visit Jamaica. lol My best friend was home the other day and was pulled over for speeding. He conveniently handed the cop his Pennsylvania licence. The cop looks down at the licence, sighs, and says "What the f**k am I gonna do with this? You know what...go about your business...drive safely". Moral of the story? Get a US licence and enjoy your stay!

There is a loophole in our system however. Now if you get pulled over by the cops and they pull the ticket book out and say "Right or Left?" then you're in with a chance. In the Jamaican language, what sounds like "LEFT" is actually "LEF" which means to leave. He's not actually saying "RIGHT" either...he's saying "WRITE". So let's translate the question: "Write or leave?" <BIG grin> All you have to do is go into your wallet for your licence, creatively fold a JM$1000 bill so that it fits behind the licence and hand it over. All of a sudden..."Sorry for the inconvenience Mr Vert! Please be safe on the roads. Enjoy your day!" LMFAO! Alternatively, if the cop asks you how many points you have on your licence and starts to express regret at having to add a few more to it, then you have a chance at the same handover. Also, if he suddenly starts to complain about the hardships of police duties or mentions how long he and his "squaddie" have been out there in the hot sun, you should be open for the same handover. GOTTA love the Third World...and yep...corrupt cops do have their good points! LMFAO!

lol i live near reynosa mexico, talk about crooooked cops. there are lots of killings by the cartels and stuff but the cops only make equal to about 300-400 dlls a month usd so the cartel payoff is like salary pay for them, if you get in trouble there, or even when your not in trouble money is the key to release. without it- jail time. its so crazy there, only 1 in 10 crimes is reported, only 1 in 100 goes to court. so badically only 1 in 1000 crimes gets punished... lol so i make sure to only scoot here in the land of the free and home of the brave! lol the cops are so desperate there though even if you have only 5 bucks they will probably let you go just so long as they think its all the money you have to your name..

Where do you live ? Im really, really not trying to be argumentative, but Im 59 and had A LOT of motorcycle issues, and as a child of the 70's, hotrod and, ummmm, "other" issues . . . A lot of court time, and in my REAL LIFE, non-internet experiences in a small town outside of Philthy, PA, when the cop doesnt show, you walk. Ive walked a few times. Gotten stung many more, though. In a nutshell : Cop shows --- you lose regardless of anything Cop doesnt show --- You have an extra 200.00 or so to have fun with Also, the CAT fund charge on the end of a lot of tickets doenst apply to MC's in a few states. They wont offer that info, but if you call them on it, they will remove it from your fine.

I know in MD if the cop doesn't show to traffic court you get a case dismissed. Been that way for many years. I went to traffic court years ago and watched a lot of people get away because their officers never showed up. You might also hear some pretty funny excuses while you're there. All you have to do is go into your wallet for your licence, creatively fold a JM$1000 bill so that it fits behind the licence and hand it over. All of a sudden..."Sorry for the inconvenience Mr Vert! According to a Google search, that's just shy of $12 US. I'd call that a bargain. I retract the previous statement. I'm going to Hertz and getting a vette right after I pick up a few $1000s. I can't actually afford that, but then I can't afford the trip there either so I might as well dream. lol
