Update:
Put a new CDI, coil and petcock on the bike. Still sounds the same. How can this tiny piece of machinery be so complicated and stubborn?
I'm at a loss...

did you ground the engine like i suggested at the bottom of page one?

It's definitely all grounded with no paint under them.
I know this engine can't be this complicated. I tested the compression again just to be sure. Still at 150 psi.

What exactly is the ignition trigger and how do I verify if it's in the right place.
P.S. I would like to insert a pic of my scoot in your avatar

the ignition trigger is by the red arrow. it sends a timing signal to the cdi. take the fan cover off to get to it but first do this: The image shows the trigger coil dismounted but dont do that or you will get a false reading. take your seat bucket out and find the blue/white (says blue/yellow but its blue/white) unplug it and using a multimeter set to the ohms scale, put one lead on the wire and the other lead to a good ground. you should see 80-160 ohms. mine is 154. if its 'OL' (open loop..meaning broken on the inside) way below 80 or way above 160 then thats a problem if not the entire problem. Scrappy has them: www.scrappydogscooters.com/Replacement_Parts.htmlI know you said you have spark but you may not have it all the time and this would be one reason why. My flowchart says- intermittent spark: bad main switch, bad coil, bad cdi ground, bad cdi connection, bad pickup coil, bad plug wire, bad cdi, loose wiring....check all that. Check your coil following steps 5 and 6: I have a repair manual with wiring diagrams in pdf format. if you want it send me a blank dvd or cd with a SASE. message me for my address. You said you have good engine grounds. there should be a big green wire on of the starter mounting bolts and also a green wire on one of the valve cover bolts (black in the first pic above of the engine), are they there? it would really suck to do all this and the problem be .5 cents of wire missing. One of the first things i learned about working with electricity is that you can never have too much ground. for your avatar upload the pic to photobucket then here you go to 'profile' then 'modify profile' and put the URL to the photo in 'Avatar URL'...the demensions on mine are set to width 85 height 75

Ok! THANK YOU Speedy!
I think we might be onto something. Tested the ignition trigger and got 176.3 which is well outside the 80-160 recommended. The part is in the mail.
Patiently awaiting salvation...
I'm gonna pray to Helios cuz the Big G's got more important things to worry about. 8)

I sure hope thats the problem and i wish i had mentioned it sooner.

All the dodgy pick-up's I've encountered have had really high resistance readings (2000+ ohms) not just a few out.

Well...
I installed the ignition trigger and I'm getting more of the same. Nothing!
Having are hard time deciding between fury and sadness. I'm at a loss and don't have any idea what to try next.
This supposedly financially responsible decision has turned into a monumental waste of time and money. Bummed...

When I installed the carb the bike was actually running for a bit. I got it to idle and adjusted it according to advice on this site. When I took it around the block it died. Back to the garage. Got it fired up again a day later. Drove it around the block again and it died in the driveway when I slowed to an idle. It severely lacked power on these two "joy" rides. I haven't been able to get it to start again. I tried to put a carb from another functional 50cc gy6 on it to no avail.
Since then I've replaced the CDI, coil, ignition trigger, petcock and all vacuum/fuel lines. I can get some pictures. Anything in particular you want me to get shots of?
I'm wondering if I should just seek professional help...mechanical and mental.
Just to reiterate, Speedy, I really appreciate your tireless efforts in all of this. Thanks again.

P.S. The resistance on the new ignition trigger is 140 ohms.
