most of us are professional mechanics but there are limits to what we can do over this medium. anyway, whats the gas like in it....how old is it. no offense but right now i feel something simple is being overlooked. as for the pictures, i just wanted to see an overall view to see if everything looks proper. im at a loss too. i wonder if the timing jumped a tooth? you can verify mechanical timing on your own right?

ok so when you FIRST put the new carb on it ran for a very short time. what does the fuel filter look like? is if full of crap? carb bowl full of crap? jets clogged?
so this is a new bike with a total of less than 500 miles?

i would check your cam timing first if that checks out try sticking your hand over air filter snorkel while you turn it over. if it still doesn't at least sound a little better, take the air box off the mouth of the carb and try to start it

sorry to be off topic a bit but i to just bought a taotao 50cc and im onlny geting 30mph on gps, however on the speedo it dose say im going 45/50 ,so im dieing to know ,when your scooter was running did it really feal like 45?just trying to figure out if i have a problem with my scoot? I doNt seem to be geeting any more power/speed past 3/4 throttle.I have read on hear of people reporting speads of 45 to 48 mph on gps with these scoots and almost everyone says to replace their sealed carb cuz they run leen and are known to burn up rings.
papachulo...what carb did you put on your scoot,i was told by scrappy dog that with their replacment carb you need to find a home for the valve cover vent??not really sure what they mean, please anyone reaspond thanks and hope you get your scoot running well soon

I have always read the valves should be .004 and .005 instead of what you set them to . Did you use Locktite as they may have came looose . Did you check for a vacuum leak or collapsed tube ? Does it backfire while turning over ?

well first off the taotao atm50's top speed is 31 mph before mods, so your not gonna get much more than that. I also have an ATM50 I can get mine up to 40 but i've modded my exhaust. And yes you want to replace the carb asap (i still havent replaced mine..lol) drill a few holes in the back of your exhaust it will get you a few mph's. replacing the carb will get you better preformance as well.

Blue NOT the red . I read many a times where pep adjusted their valves themselves only to have them come out of adjustments . I thought you said you were not a newbie

I thought you said you were not a newbie ive been around mechanical lifter motors since i was 16 and im 42...never seen anyone ever put loctite on the adjuster...never even heard of it...and never heard of them coming loose either. must not be getting them tight enough if you need loctite in the motor.

Haynes #4768 chapter 1 section 28 'tighten locknut securely'
Doesnt say anything about loctite. I am sure if i look hard enough i can find the torque spec on the adjuster locknut. I started adjusting the valves on my 1967 VW when I was 16....and I never had an adjuster nut come loose. You ever work on or own anything with mechanical lifters besides a scooter?
Tighten that sucker!

I like to use Locktite on nuts and bolts since the keep them from getting loose as any two wheeler can loosen then from bumps and vibrations
