While I normally run a NGK C7HSA in my Taotao EVO 150cc scooter and get good performance out of the plug (63mph with a little CVT mods and aftermarket pipe). But I was thinking about going with one of the CR7HSA plugs this next time when I do my scheduled (every 4 months) "Maintenance Routine"...which entails Changing engine oil, changing gear oil, cleaning air filter, cleaning the blades on my cooling fan, checking my belt for wear and doing a check of all my fuel and vacuum lines. I know that the "R" in the NGK plugs designation stands for Resistor and its suppose to stop your engine from interfering with any radio, cellphone or engine computer functions...but I don't use any of those while riding (other than my CDI). The main reason for my concern is that just recently I had to do an emergency fill up at a 7-11 and right away my scoot was a beeotch to get started (I used their 93 octane, while I normally fill up at a different gas station and use Non-ethanol 89 Octane). But when I pulled the NGK Iridium CR7HIX Plug out it looked wet, so I put in a used NGK C7HSA and she started but was a struggle. Next day wouldn't start, pulled plug and it was wet too, put another C7HSA in and she started but once again it was a struggle. So I went to the Gas Station (with the Non-Ethanol) and got me a can full (left my scooter idling) and then I went back home and drained the rest of the 7-11 fuel out. After I put the fresh Non-Ethanol back in, she fired right up and runs good again. NOTE: I have found over a 6 month test period that I get better performance out of the Non-Ethanol 89 Octane (not so much with the 87) over 92 or 93 Ethanol enriched fuel, my fuel mileage went up 6-7 miles per tank full (1.3 gal) average on 12 fill ups too. Now seeing that I have gotten 3 good plugs fouled out by some garbage fuel, I am wanting to buy 2 new ones (never hurts to have a back up plug) and was looking for some input and viewpoints . Should I just get the C7HSA or switch to the CR7HSA ? (they are the same price) or dig deep into my wallet and buy another Iridium plug...(1 = 3 of the others in cost) this Pic is of my Iridium plug after the garbage fuel...its been in for about 8 months and the last 2 times I checked it, it looked like it was still brand new with no blackening anywhere...I guess I can wire brush it

hey , brainpup ; what year is your EVO? MINE IS 2014 . I'm running iriduim too. . I have 3 old CR7HSA's and the iridium is CR7HIX .I've been putting in only Sunoco 93 . but don't really know about "gas". I'll look next time and see if it's E or non E. I do know my plugs get black. I have a new Hoca drive face for the variator and a new belt I'll be putting on pretty soon and I'll be looking at plug color etc. then too.

My EVO is dated 09/2013 I got her 04/2014 with 1000km on her, she'd been in storage for 4 months and still looked brand new. (a landlord got her as payment from a tenant for storing his stuff while he sat in jail for a DUI) so I bought her for $600, still had the blue plastic over the ignition switch, the seat lock and the clear plastic was still over the tail light !! I literally got a barely broke in scooter for half price, with no damage or wear... I've put another 12,000km on her, so the odometer reads 13,400km right now...but in February I had to put a new motor in her because I let some moron try and tune my new carb/pipe setup and he ran it too lean and fried the cylinder...I do my own work now. The Sunoco's around here do not sell Non-Ethanol...Kangaroo Express, Quik Trip and a close by "Kornor Store" (thats how they spell it..lol and I'm not sure who they actually get their gas from but its 89 Non-Ethanol and my scooter runs great with it, even better than Sunoco, EXXON, or Shell 93 octane...and my plugs stay clean. How do the CR7HSA work ? same as a regular one ? difference from the Iridium ?
Mods wise : 26mm Mikuni Carb, aftermarket pipe that breaths big time, Orange CDI, Orange Coil, 12 gram weights in my Variator, 1500RPM Clutch Springs, 2000RPM Torque Spring and a 842x20x30 Gates Powerlink Kevlar Belt. plus a set of LED Headlights and Blue Ice White Dash Lights. My next thing to do is repaint her, clear coat is peeling off even though I put a cover over her every night

I just started with iridium recently; didn't notice any diff in way it runs and haven't had the plug out yet to look at it. Ill have to go to Kangaroo. I bought mine in late 2015 for $800. I figure it was way too much. too much wear and tear - I think. first scoot , didn't know anything . still first scoot but know a little more now since I been coming here. I put a new motor in mine too last Jan. I had the idea I needed to get a new carb; don't remember why . I think I thought it was just time , couple years old now blah, blah. So , didn't really know parts then ; since then bought bunch of new stuff and done quite a bit of just working on it. compared to last 35 -40 years not doing any mechanic stuff since mid 80's . anyway bought a cheap carb and best I can tell it came from factory with the end of the idle mix screw broken off. only found out after trying for 2-3 mos to get it to run right . never thought to look at idle mix screw until after driving it a lot with poor idle, poor pick up , just all around running ragged. had no idea. my best guess is it was running rich and ruined the rings , ended up with 0 compression with HF tester. tossed motor . ordered a new one. since then , been into the new motor. If I knew then what I do now I never would have got a new one - just new parts for that motor. I got sick and tired of broken plastic and always having to take it off to do anything so I'm in the process of going naked with it.

Wow, thats sounds like a lot of hassle, my scoot was bullet proof for the 1st 4 years and 12,000km. Then I let that "moron" work on it and needed a new motor, shes been good to go ever since (well except for that garbage gas I bought last week) I've found that when it comes to important parts like a Carb or belts its best to buy quality parts. Our scoots run best with a 26mm carb (buy a good one) and a 842 belt. oh and keep your airbox on, mine didn't like the other cone-like filters at all. is your scoot a blue one ? mines red How did you get broken plastic ? BTW if you take your seat off you can pretty much get to everything on the engine. I actually done have any of the bolts or nuts holding mine on except the hinge one in the front and thats only 2 10mm bolts/nuts.
BTW my name is Brian and I'm in Charlotte, NC but I'm originally from Cocoa Beach (long time surfer) and have lived in O'ville as recently as 2001.

my airbox was already gone. I find it's best to buy quality parts too; now. yeah, my front fender is blue ;only plastic left on it . the pic in my avatar is it but it's so blurry you can't really see it and it's too far away. every time I took plastic off to do something I'd find another tab broken off ; same with the black access cover that comes up from the floorboard ; think there might be 2 tabs left or 1. 1st thing I ever did was brakes; and front wheel cylinder. look here -http://49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/24876/conversion-150cc-digital-led-boot?page=1 and here- 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/26040/help-tiny-female-spade-connectors I looked but don't think I have any more pix with all the plastic - any more Jeff here. I lived in Gville for last 10 years and came back to Oville in Jan of last year. My mom is 95 now and needs someone here . graduated Winter Park High in 72 . mostly stayed here except Colo. Springs in 80-82 . never surfed. in 65 in Miami my dad built a board for us- a 10'6" monster and he glued a rubber pad to it- to "help us learn"
I haven't had my seat bolted down now for over a year .
my carb is a PDJ 24- pretty sure . I should remember . I bought enough of them . maybe it's PD24J . I'll have to check on the size/mm . thought it was 24mm . I've always had a Uni air filter. and I'll check and see what belt I bought and we can compare.
I'm really interested in what you might have done if anything , other than stock. BTW I only ever got 52 mph and that was with the cluster stock speedo. I did GET 53 just a while back with my phone GPS.
maybe I need a 26mm carb.
anyway , hope I can get this thing back together.

here's what I bought recently . gettin ready to install soon . working on rewire too/1st? www.partsforscooters.com/this is the carb I have - www.partsforscooters.com/164-49-Universal-Parts-GY6-125cc-150cc-CarburetorI think this must be yours- www.partsforscooters.com/164-323-26mm-GY6-Carburetor I wonder what would happen if I put a 30 or 32mm OKO carb on . wonder what kind of tuning I would have to do? maybe change the clutch and variator around . do all kinds of pain in the ass tuning ? experimenting . lots of dollars. might not even be something good for the scoot to do . " Wrong " , you know ? maybe even different exhaust. your exhaust looks different . shinier. mine's just basic stock muffler. I guess yours is too , just different cover? I had a problem with mine awhile back had to replace header and muffler ;it was an operator created error . then when muffler got here , had to basically rethread one of the holes for muff to pipe connection which didn't line up . Chinese. I guess you have one of these belts - www.partsforscooters.com/Belt_842-20-30_gates_2 www.partsforscooters.com/106-126-Bando-Belt_2 mine must be a different length . I'm following advice from one of the parts guys at PFS when I buy parts. he matched the belt with the variator face and stock clutch. here's some pix of what mine is now - one of the guys here on the forum sent me those big lights along with 2 others -diff. style - which I couldn't get working - for free , even paid shipping and him and another guy here gave me their phone # and we've talked some . this is why I have the large basket - 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/25330/loaded-work?page=1I need to go to the local electronic/surplus store where they have all kinds of diff stuff and get some more alum. flat plate and alum angle for my headlight fabrication .

Rainy day and thought I'd do some checking: Looks like the OEM plug was a Torch A7RTC = NGK CR7HS. My preference is the NGK brand. They both appear to have a resistor so I would leave that alone. Don't know what the A means, but dont see that as a problem. How many miles r u getting out of a plug? progreengrass.com/spark-plug-cross-reference-chart/I think the fuel might have been the factor, since u just filled up. A friend of mine who worked for Texaco said different additives are used to determine octain of the gas. No telling where 7-11 got their gas or when the tanks were filled. My suspected water in the gas resulting n the wet plug. We just switched from "Summer" gas to "Winter" gas, meaning more volital additive r used. Alcahol is also volital, and determine octain. Have u switched brands of motor oil? Just some thoughts. I hale from Winston-Salem. Hello! neighbor.

Oh, maan . I have no idea about plugs.sorry. I've had the wire harness of for weeks now , so not driving . I keep making mistakes with diff purchases for crimps etc. and it costs me more time again and again waiting for other right or wrong parts. I finally got the right size but it's a slow process for me to do the wiring. flying while blind . also eye appt. today ; rode 4 miles on my bike to the VA and then a shuttle to another VA across town. anyway, one little roadblock after another. but I'll get it eventually. then comes the new CVT parts and belt and I may need new clutch parts; I suspect. good luck. stay in touch.
