Not our garden but where I feed the birds at the coffee box trailer. No idea what they are.

Saw this while down the coffee box trailer today on the rose bush. Never seen one before. Info below on the gall. These hairy balls, called “Robin’s Pincushion” in England, are caused by the rose gall wasp, a small wasp that injects a substance that causes the rose tissue to swell and form the unusual growth. Once the gall has formed, the wasp lays eggs inside it. The galls appear in June and July, starting out pale green or red and turning brown as they age. The outer, moss-like filaments surround a cluster of hard cells that harbour tiny grubs over the winter. The larvae do not mature and emerge from the galls until spring. Species roses are most commonly affected. Rose gall wasps do little harm, and some people find their handiwork to be fascinating curiosities in the garden. Those who see the galls as visually offensive will choose to cut off gall-bearing stems. Bear in mind, though, that these wasps also play roles as pollinators and as predators on insect pests.

Nice garden jloi and mature trees you have. They just cut down our mature trees due to Ash die back so all we have is a new 6 foot high naked fence round two sides with the old fence at least we could talk to the neighbours. At least wr have a hedge on the otherside the garden with nesting birds and hedgehog in. Today's flower

Hedgehog, small spiney skinned critters native to our shores, famous for curling up into a ball when threatened but have absolutely no road sense and many get killed on our roads,we have a few on my suburban housing estate and the near by nature reserve holds a good population of them, not like a hog at all. And nocturnal so our paths don,t cross
